This vertical integration is a prerequisite for many Industrie 4.0 solutions. Thanks to our innovative standardized message-based interface, it will be possible to connect new equipment to the production network simply and intuitively reducing the workload by up to 75%! Together with partners like ISPE, we are collaborating to establish an interface as an open industry standard, which will be incorporated into our PAS-X MES. Another example of our integrated Pharma 4.0 solutions is our use case for parenteral manufacturing. It covers the entire value chain and includes PAS-X and partner systems such as Sartorius Stedim Biotech s FlexAct, ABB s process control system, Systec & Solutions trolleys, Seidenader s inspection solution and Dividella s packaging machinery. Our line controller independent Track & Trace solution is also included. 2 CONSUMER HEALTH SOLUTION, USA PAS-X CONTROLS NEW PACKAGING LINE AS LEADING SYSTEM AT GLOBAL HEALTH CARE PRODUCER Rapid batch review and release in real time to facilitate very short changeover times / Complete process execution control and information management A leading global producer of skin health and hygiene solutions successfully implemented Werum s PAS-X MES within its packaging area at one of its manufacturing facilities in the US. At the plant, PAS-X supports a new finishto-order (FTO) line. The FTO line will allow products to be automatically packaged and shipped based on customer demand. In the future, the hygiene product units will be intelligent enough to automatically create replenishment orders on the FTO line. As the FTO batch-sizes are quite small, but the volume of batches is high the project faces the unique challenge of very short changeover times between batches. By choosing Werum s PAS-X MES the customer is able to utilize PAS-X s Review by Exception to facilitate this challenge. As the core system, PAS-X fully integrates with SAP ERP and the packaging line. ANIMAL HEALTH SOLUTION, USA LEADING ANIMAL HEALTH COMPANY SELECTED WERUM AS GLOBAL MES SUPPLIER PAS-X supports pharma and biotech processes within a single MES system / Pilot implementation at manufacturing plant in Michigan / Rollout to seven further sites planned A leading producer of medicines and vaccinations for pets and livestock with headquarters in the US has selected Werum IT Solutions as its global MES supplier. The company will implement a pilot PAS-X MES system based on PAS-X at its manufacturing site in Michigan. The installation will be used for two product families, covering processes for weighing and dispensing as well as formulation and packaging. PAS-X will be integrated to SAP ERP. The customer opted for Werum s MES because their manufacturing process is quite diverse and includes both pharma and biotech operations. PAS-X is flexible enough to cover all these processes with the same MES system. Following the pilot, the animal health company plans to roll out PAS-X to seven further manufacturing sites located around the globe. 2 WERUM

3 KRKA, SLOVENIA ANNIVERSARY: KRKA AND WERUM CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF SUCCESSFUL COLLABORATION Werum s PAS-X is Krka s standard MES / Implementation in 12 manufacturing sites in different European countries A reason to be proud of: Krka and Werum collaborate to improve the pharmaceutical production at Krka facilities already for 20 years. Krka is a leading international generic pharmaceutical manufacturer with headquarters in Novo mesto, Slovenia. The collaboration started in 1996 with the first project covering a PAS-X 1.4 system for the tableting plant in Novo mesto. Later on, it was extended with W&D for the plant Notol in Novo mesto. In parallel, the go-live preparations in the fully automated plant Notol-1 began. With the switch to SAP in 2004, PAS-X was migrated to V2 and rolled out in plants outside Slovenia. An important milestone for Krka and Werum was the start of the V3 program with a pilot implementation in 2013 in the Croatian plant. Notol-2 was built and successfully taken into operation in In the next big step, Krka will migrate the Notol-1 plant to V3. Since the PAS-X V1 implementation 20 years ago, PAS-X became our standard MES system and is being used today in about 12 sites in Slovenia, Croatia, Russia, Poland, and Germany, says Sebastijan Kos at Krka, d. d., Novo mesto. POLPHARMA, POLAND LARGEST POLISH PHARMACEUTICAL MANUFACTURER INTRODUCES WERUM S PAS-X MES Implementation in Starogard Gdański production plant, Poland / Full-scope PAS-X MES out of the box / Compliance with approving authorities as well as improved process and product quality Polpharma will introduce Werum s PAS-X MES in its production facility in Staro gard Gdański, Poland. The company is the largest Polish manufacturer of pharmaceuticals and ranks among the top 20 generic drug manufacturers worldwide. PAS-X will be implemented as full-scope MES out of the box replacing a legacy MES. It will support efficient operations in the production departments for parenteral and solid forms as well as in the R&D department. PAS-X shall be fully integrated with the Oracle ERP and WMS system and the scales on the shop floor level. We decided in favour of Werum s PAS-X MES because it meets all requirements set forth by the approving authorities, says Artur Połom, Solid Forms Production Department, Polpharma S. A. 4 ASTRAZENECA, AUSTRALIA ASTRAZENECA DEPLOYS WERUM S PAS-X MES TO REPLACE SAP PROCESS INSTRUCTION SHEETS Rollout in North Ryde, Australia, without disruption to running operations / GMBR approach reduces maintenance efforts for new and existing recipes AstraZeneca Australia successfully put Werum s PAS-X MES into operation at their site in North Ryde. The plant previously had a suite of legacy IT solutions in place including a custom SAP PI Sheet for the entire production management and execution. They decided to replace the legacy ERP system as part of a global finance restructuring and IT standardization plan and due to the high risks to maintain this software in a GMP environment. The first step was to implement PAS-X to be integrated into the legacy ERP, then to move all products in a phased approach over to the MES and finally to realize a new interface of the MES to connect with the new regional ERP solution without any disruption to running operations. The highly standardized PAS-X MES allowed the project through configuration to be implemented without the need for costly efforts in custom software development. One key element was to leverage the Generic Master Batch Records (GMBR) functionality. The result was that approx. 100 different products across a wide range of production methods (respules, polybags, vials, ampoules) and process variations (motherdaughter, campaign, media, batching productions) can now be handled with only 13 generic recipes. PAS-X entirely replaced the legacy weighing and dispensing system and the custom SAP PI Sheets. It also provides a standard interface to the new regional Asia SAP ERP system. MUSTAFA NEVZAT, TURKEY RELEASE OF WERUM S PAS-X AT LEADING TURKISH PHARMA MANUFACTURER IN ONLY SIX MONTHS Mustafa Nevzat introduced Werum s PAS-X Weighing & Dispensing at site in Istanbul / Improved quality and regulatory compliance / Full SAP integration Mustafa Nevzat Pharmaceuticals has successfully taken Werum s PAS-X Weighing & Dispensing into operation at their main manufacturing site in Istanbul, Turkey. The pharmaceutical company is an Amgen holding representing one of the leading Turkish manufacturers of active pharmaceutical ingredients and finished dosage forms. At the Istanbul site, Mustafa Nevzat has been started to refurbish the main production plant dedicated to the manufacturing of sterile liquid and freeze-dried injectable products, tablets, film-coated tablets and capsules. Several new cleanroom booths for weighing, dispensing and sampling were put up and outfitted with Werum s PAS-X. PAS-X Weighing & Dispensing was implemented mainly out of the box within six months. It communicates with Mettler Toledo scales and fully integrates the SAP ERP through its certified, configurable standard interface. We have opted for the introduction of Werum s PAS-X in our weighing areas to improve efficiency and compliance with regulatory requirements, says Ongun Akersin, Process Technologies Team Leader at Mustafa Nevzat Pharmaceuticals. The new electronic workflows will replace paper-based execution and ensure improved process and product quality. 5 BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM, AUSTRIA WERUM RECEIVES MAJOR ORDER FROM BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM: PAS-X FOR NEW BIOTECH PLANT Boehringer Ingelheim builds industrial-scale production plant for biopharmaceutical active ingredients in Vienna / Latest version of Werum s PAS-X MES will control complex process workflows PAS-X 3.2 Boehringer Ingelheim (BI) commissioned Werum IT Solutions with the implementation of an MES to control the pharmaceutical production in their new plant in Vienna, Austria. BI erects an industrial-scale biopharmaceutical production plant in Vienna for active ingredients which will be produced using cell cultures. The MES will control complex workflows across the entire process chain from the inoculum to the filling. The operation of Werum s PAS-X MES has already led to efficiency improvements at other BI sites. In addition, PAS-X supports BI in meeting regulatory requirements for the biopharmaceutical production. The MES implementation in Vienna will be performed on the basis of the latest PAS-X product version which is also intended to replace the existing PAS-X systems at other BI sites in the following years. CHUGAI PHARMACEUTICAL, JAPAN CHUGAI TO DEPLOY WERUM S PAS-X MES FOR BIOPHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTION IN JAPAN New plant in Tokyo designed for production of cutting-edge biotech APIs / Werum s PAS-X MES chosen for its standard product approach and pre-configured content packages Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a member of the Roche Group, has chosen Werum s PAS-X MES for a greenfield project at their Ukima site in the north of Tokyo. Chugai is one of Japan s leading research-based pharmaceutical companies specialized in prescription drugs with strengths in biotechnology products. The new plant is designed to produce cutting-edge biopharmaceuticals APIs using cell cultivation USP/DSP production processes. Together with its partner in Japan, Chiyoda System Technologies Corporation, Werum will deliver a full-scope PAS-X MES, including standardized level 2 and level 4 interfaces. Customizations will be reduced to an absolute minimum. Chugai opted for PAS-X due to its standard product approach and Werum s experience in the biopharmaceutical industries. After conducting thorough research through reference visits at several pharma companies sites in the US and visiting the PAS-X UGM several times, we are convinced that PAS-X is the best answer to the needs of our new Ukima plant, says a representative of Chugai Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. PAS-X KPI is the only KPI/OEE tool dedicated solely to the pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical industries. It is capable of seamlessly integrating data both from the ERP level and the machine level at the shop floor. By allowing comparisons and evaluations of operating data at production lines in different facilities, it provides an enterprise-wide, single source point of information. PAS-X KPI automatically collects process data related to Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) in real time. Results are displayed on various monitors in easily understandable terms to enable quick decision making. Operators and supervisors can continuously view the up-to-date status of their lines, including production goals and target achievements. Plant managers benefit from standardized reports with aggregated operating figures for analyses in larger contexts. Werum s KPI/OEE tool is browser-based and supports multiple delivery methods, including site installation and enterprise cloud. 10 WERUM AMERICA WERUM AMERICA REINFORCES KEY ACCOUNT RELATIONS WITH EXPERIENCED PHARMA MANUFACTURING SPECIALIST Rodney Neal appointed as Vice President Strategic Program Management at Werum IT Solutions America Werum IT Solutions has appointed Rodney Neal as Vice President Strategic Program Management of its American operation, Werum IT Solutions America. In this role, Mr. Neal is responsible for advising Werum s key accounts and supporting them to maximize the value of their PAS-X MES. Mr. Neal is a manufacturing operations specialist with concentration in the application of technology to improve business processes in pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical factories. For his entire career of more than 25 years he has operated at the intersection of operational and information technology designing and implementing various manufacturing execution systems. His experience spans tactical projects to strategic multi-site programs for clients in pharma, biotech, med devices and other industries. Mr. Neal is an engaged member of several industry associations such as APICS, ISA and ISPE. In ISA he worked in the ISA S95 committee. For the past 16 years, Mr. Murray worked at Emerson Process Management in the consulting, product marketing, and engineering area. Steve also spent many years delivering pharma/biotech DCS projects and was the global product manager for the DeltaV Batch product for two years.
