2 Digital Transformation of Global Supply Chains OPPORTUNITIES, CHALLENGES AND EMERGING ISSUES FOR SENIOR MANAGEMENT Digital transformation is not about the technology itself, it is about making existing business models more effective through advanced technologies the possibilities of new, radical and dynamic models. Each company generates and orchestrates a series of activities between different sectors that contribute to bringing a product or service from its concept to consumer application. These activities constitute the value chain the central process of any company. With digital transformation, value chains are advancing in the creation of digital corridors, services that do not own the underlying assets themselves, such as Uber or Airbnb. In addition to enabling new business models, technology is also allowing the optimization and redesign of existing models. Companies are finding new ways to develop and deploy algorithms that drive their business. They are utilizing AI and blockchain technology, all in the context of new Digital Supply Chain performance metrics that capture not only cost reduction but revenue growth through supply chain action. All companies must prepare for levels of disruption from a digital transformation. It has arrived to change industries, competitive positions and the future of companies. Photo: Li & Fung PAGE 1
