The AM provides access, engagement and scientific research to increase our understanding of natural history and culture, particularly of the Australasian region. The AM holds more than 18 million objects of biological, geological and cultural collections and develops programs, exhibitions and school and community education initiatives onsite, online and offsite. The AM s purpose is to make nature, Indigenous cultures & science accessible and relevant to everyone. The Australian Museum Research Institute (AMRI) Division is comprised of the following five Branches: Life Science, Digital Collections and Citizen Science, Lizard Island Research Station, Materials Conservation and Australian Centre for Wildlife Genomics. For more information, visit the following sites: Australian Museum Research Institute Australian Museum Science Research Strategy Primary purpose of the role The Database Manager is responsible for the technical management of the digital collection management system, ensuring it integrates with AM IT and Digital infrastructure, and oversees data standards for data capture, storage and access to achieve project outcomes and support the achievement of Australian Museum objectives. Key accountabilities Technical management and day to day operation of the digital collections database. Collaborates with others to design data standards for capture, storage and access to collection data. Administers the database configuration, security, schema and objects, ensuring compliance against agreed standards and guidelines 1

2 Oversees database software installations and upgrades to maintain currency with supported environments Manages the resolution of collection database technical issues (software) and support of database users. Works with other areas of the business to ensure the integration of the collection database and associated data with corporate infrastructure such as websites, apps and exhibitions. Works with the DigiVol coordinators, Manager of Life Science, and Digital Collection Citizen Science Manager to develop and manage the data related aspects of the DigiVol project. Oversees data related aspects of all collection related data projects such as digitising. Key challenges Manage effective and efficient access to AM collection data for all stakeholders. Integrate collection data into all relevant aspects of AM functions and operations. 3 Role dimensions Decision making The position holder, with guidance from the Manager and supported by other staff, makes decisions about EMu technical management, user support and data import, storage, access and quality issues. Reporting line Role reports to the Manager of Life Science Direct reports Data and Support Budget/Expenditure Nil Essential requirements Tertiary degree or equivalent experience in information technology or relevant discipline Demonstrated advanced skills, experience and expertise in database manipulation and management preferably in a Museum or natural history context. Demonstrated experience in managing a database environment including databasing and data import, data reporting and access, and creating and implementing data standards. Demonstrated experience with managing large datasets preferably of a taxonomic and/or ecological nature. Adequate knowledge and experience in order to deliver the Key Accountabilities and perform to the Focus Capabilities outlined in the Role Description.
