Master Data High Impact, Low Priority?

Poor Data Quality is like dirt on the windshield Ultimately, poor data quality is like dirt on the windshield. You may be able to drive for a long time with slowly degrading vision, but at some point, you either have to stop and clear the windshield or risk everything. Ken Orr, The Cutter Consortium

Some of hidden costs that MDM can help reducing (*) Nearly 60% of all invoices generated have errors; each invoice error costs enterprises from $40 to $400 to reconcile. Nearly 30% of the item data in catalogs used by retailers and manufacturers is incorrect. Correcting those errors costs between $60 and $80 each. 43% of all invoices result in some form of deduction. Companies lose approximately $40 billion, or 3.5% of sales, each year because of supply chain information inefficiencies. (**) UK Retail ecosystem 235m is the 5 year cost of corrections and manual workarounds for retailers and suppliers 475m is the admin shrinkage over 5 years 300m is the Lost sales over next 5 years. (*) A.T. Kearney (**) GS1 Data Crunch report

those costs have and impact on the bottom line! 245 UK companies, in the top European 1000, analyzed on the study in which were found to be leaking, collectively, 59.5 billion per year in uncollected cash, of which: 17.7 billion was due to customers withholding payments due to disputes; 14.2 billion due to unresolved customer queries; and 27.6 billion due to poor collection practices. The answer is No single algorithm is capable of compensating for all the classes of error and variation present in identity data.. In order to achieve a consolidated view of your identity data, you will need a combination of these algorithms, and more, each one addressing a particular class of problem, Our DQ technology uses a variety of techniques, including the six mentioned here and many more, to address different classes of error and variation in identities Empirical Phonetic Deterministic Linguistic Heuristic Probabilistic

Understanding Data Governance Business Pain Points Data attribute are ambiguous How do you enforce consistent data definitions? Each application has its own schema and semantics How do you integrate across disparate schema? What happens when you change or extend your model? Sharing data is hard across systems and hierarchies Who can write to it and when? How do you resolve conflicts? To even start fixing these issues, What is the source of the problems? Can you track trends or measure improvements?
