1 SAS Education Analytic Suite Product Descriptions Base SAS Software Base SAS 9.1 is the underlying, fourth generation programming language on which all new SAS applications are written. It is specifically designed to optimize data access and transformation activities needed for analytic applications and reporting. Base SAS forms the foundation language for all SAS 9 applications, tools and solutions and delivers on the promise of scalable data integration, ease of use, compatibility and efficiency that are the keys to the SAS 9 Intelligence Platform. Base SAS significantly reduces the resources needed for writing programs that gather and process data. Using its specially designed capability for data access and transformation tasks, along with hundreds of built-in functions, Base SAS can provide the tools needed for analytics and reporting. Base SAS scales well with increasing amounts of data. This capability allows users to perform their work in a timely manner. It also facilitates the full exploitation of their existing hardware. Base SAS simplifies the creation and distribution of reports. Using the Output Delivery System in Base SAS, creating reports in different formats requires only a few SAS statements. The net result is that the needs of business users can be met much easier using Base SAS. SAS/ACCESS Software SAS/ACCESS interfaces are an out of box solution that provides connectivity between SAS and other databases for data access and update. The interface communicates with the database via their client-side libraries. Through this means of communication, SAS can surface data from both local and remote database servers because all the data is treated as a local available resource, regardless of its physical location. SAS/ACCESS interfaces support two means of integration: the LIBNAME engine and the Pass-Through Facility. The LIBNAME engine provides a seamless and transparent way to surface data and requires minimal knowledge of the data and the SQL required to surface it. The SAS/ACCESS interfaces are available for the most current releases of the Database Management Systems on the most popular platforms on the market, including Personal Computers, Unix and Mainframe systems.
