1 How will telecoms connect the dots in response to financial transformation? EY IFRS & VAT seminar for telecommunications Bahrain, January 2017 The better the question. The better the answer. The better the world works.

2 2 EY IFRS & VAT seminar for telecommunications

3 Introduction For telecom players, being in a business as usual state has become a euphoria of the past. Telecoms are already trying to redefine themselves as digital service providers and ICT ecosystem managers by changing their strategic focus and operating model. Intense competition continues while the sector as a whole faces existential threat from increasingly disruptive innovations driven by over-the-top players and technology giants. There is also growing stakeholder scrutiny and pressure for sector-wide consolidation. Add to the above the introduction of new financial reporting standards and value added tax in the GCC. The implications of these changes go beyond matters of accounting, impact most functions and many key business decisions. Adapting effectively would require embracing new ways of steering the business. The real challenge is educating, engaging and mobilizing all relevant stakeholders to effectively manage the enterprise-wide transformation required. This seminar is designed to provide a collaborative workshop environment where executives from across the sector finance and other functional leaders - come together to gain valuable insights by interacting with each other and hearing from subject matter leaders from EY. We look forward to your participation at the event. Thanks & regards, Shabkhez Mahmood Telecom, Media and Technology Sector Leader Financial Accounting Advisory Services, Middle East & North Africa
