2 Header goes here Table of Contents Salary Guide Table of Contents Highlights Note from the CEO About our Salary Guide Calgary Edmonton Montreal GTA Hiring Cycle

3 HIGHLIGHTS Highlights TECH SECTOR OUTLOOK With over 531,000 direct and 478,000 indirect jobs, IT in Canada is responsible for more jobs than the energy and automobile sectors combined. Canada is fast becoming a global tech hub with Toronto gaining the highest number of tech jobs in North America. FORECAST Cloud computing and Artificial Intelligence are set to launch the next technology revolution in Canada, generating more than 57,000 jobs in the next year. ECONOMIC IMPACT Contributing $69.5B to Canada's GDP at a sustained growth rate of over 4% over the past five years, the IT sector is set to claim its position as the engine of growth for the nation's economy. WHERE THE JOBS ARE Toronto and Montreal are the hotbed of technical innovation, and will see a rapid growth in IT jobs created in Canada. With digitization of processes trending in the energy and finance sectors, Alberta is also staking its claim as an IT powerhouse in the coming years. SKILLS TO WATCH FOR Big Data Architecture, Project Management, and Database Management will be sought after skills by IT recruiters. Software development skills with DevOps experience will also be in demand. BUSINESS INVESTMENT From start-ups to multinationals, Canada is home to over 39,000 IT companies that combined are responsible for nearly one-third the overall private sector research and development spend. SALARY FORECAST IT workers earn median salaries that are 50% higher than other professionals, and tech jobs will see a salary increase of approximately 5% in Salary Guide

4 NOTE FROM THE CEO Note from the CEO By any measure, Canada s employment scene has become increasingly healthy throughout In March 2018 the overall unemployment rate of 5.8% was the lowest in four decades with all provinces showing steady employment growth. This was followed by further job creation into the summer months. Against the backdrop of trade agreement negotiations and tariffs there lurks some uncertainty, but nevertheless for employers seeking to hire IT staff, competition has increased. If there is an area of the job market worldwide which is growing faster than others it is IT. In the hotspots for IT in Vancouver, GTA and Montreal employers have known for some time that competing for talent has become more difficult, and this is set to continue. However, regions outside the IT hotspots are also experiencing more competition as for example the economy continues to improve in Alberta, and more companies adopt newer technologies. As workers are presented with more choices, understanding compensation trends and deploying effective hiring practices becomes top of mind for most organizations. We present this year s salary guide as a tool we hope will assist you and your organization to compete for talent in your industry and region. And, as usual, we would be pleased to add some colour and detail over the phone or in person regarding the data in this guide, or on other trends and hiring strategies in your market.
