Introduction We all know the challenges faced in projects with a focus on gathering information to meet the information needs for decisionmaking of top management, particularly in global companies that operate in different cultures, languages, markets, processes and ERP systems. We think that projects of this nature always show the integration of people, the quality of internal processes, as well as the added value of information systems toward maximizing the company's results. 4 The Company: Overview Magnesita is a private company devoted to mining, production and marketing of a broad range of refractory materials. More than 13 thousand different types are produced, from monolithic materials and conventional bricks to high technology ceramics for lining equipments that operate at high temperatures. The products are mainly used by steel, cement and glass manufacturers.

The Company: Where We Are Plants Headquarters Sales and technical assistence Port

The Company: Some figures 1 st Leader in integrated solutions with refractory products 3 rd Largest producer of refractory products in the world 28 Industrial and mining units > 1.4 million Tons refractories production capacity per year

The Project: Purpose and Drivers Provide a management dashboard with the main key performance indicators of Magnesita. Drivers: The information must be consolidated with the elimination of intercompany transactions. The information must be detailed by the operating regions ("South America", "North America", "Asia", "Europe" and "Joint Ventures"). The drilldown to market level ("Refractories Steel", "Refractories Industrial", "Minerals" and "Services") must be possible.

The Project: Purpose and Drivers The information must be consistent and reconciled to the P&L and Balance Sheet statements. The information must be translated from local currency to management currency. The solution must be able to allocate consolidated values to market level through some business rules, that will be defined by the regional controller. The solution must be able to compare Actual Data to Budget Data or Actual Data from the Previous Year. The solution must be delivered until April 27, 2012 (40 working days).

The Solution: Concept Manual Input Data Business Rules Global Dashboard Consolidation Data Global Sales Data

The Solution: Technical Design Global Sales Data (SAP BW) Xtreme Reporting (SAP BPC) SAP BW (OLAP) xcelsius (BO) Measure Master Data Dashboard Sales InfoCube Model Information Virtual Cubes Consolidation Data (SAP BPC) Business Rules Management Manual Input Data Query Currency Translation Application Finance Data Integration TCURR Table Calculation Application Rate Analysis Configuration Default Logic (BPC BADI) Real Time

The Accelerator: Xtreme Reporting Engine Xtreme Reporting (XRpt) is an application developed inside of SAP BPC NetWeaver platform. Its main goal is accelerate, enrich and make easy the implementation and maintenance processes of the solutions focused on planning, budgeting, forecasting and consolidating. Running certification process at SAP ICC In 12 (twelve) working days the XRpt was able to deliver the information model of the Global KPI Project, including: Indicator master data. Data integration process with global consolidation data (BPC) and global sales data (BW). BPC templates for complementary data input and data quality processes. Complete set of business rules (Allocations and calculations). Provide all information for BI layer.

The Accelerator: Highlights While the configuration transaction is focused on keeping the business rules, this transaction has its focus on the creation of instances of the model (eg: Specific region, Specific cost center and so on). The XRpt configuration transaction provides an interface where the business view is privileged. The transaction only orchestrates the process of maintenance the information model, in a friendly way, into SAP BPC standard dimensions. To operationalize the information model, the SAP BPC, through its client component, provides a standard template, which is shaped according to the parameters configured for the information model.

The Accelerator: Measures The Measure is the main component of the Xtreme Reporting solution. All business rules of the information model will be input on it. Its properties are extremely useful for data integration process and for analyzing information process.

The Accelerator: Models The "Model" meets all parameters needed for the operationalization of the information. Among these parameters are the categories, variables, conditions, the formulas of the indicators and especially the way in which interface will display indicators to users.

The Accelerator: Formulas One of the strengths of the application XRpt is the maintenance of business rules outside the technical layer, allowing a quick and clear understanding, without the need of specific expertise.

The Accelerator: External Measure Considered one element of the formula the "External Measure" performs the process of data integration with other applications. During the model calculation, this feature can look up information in BW cubes, BPC applications and others XRpt models.

The Accelerator: Manual Input Data The XRpt template uses the configured parameters to present the measures and set the visual pattern, considering: The font color; The highlight of the measure groups; The identification of which information is available for data input and so on.

The Accelerator: XRpt and BW virtual cube The XRpt has the functionality to publish its data on BW virtual cube and leverage the BI layer to analysis.

The Comments The KPI Cockpit project is a successful case which was achieved through the combination of a highly skilled team and the support of important IT systems. The application of Xtreme Reporting directly contributed to reducing the effort required and a better system architecture. Samuel Macedo Technical Leader A project is considered successful when achieves its goals of scope, time, cost and quality. The decisive factor for our success was to use a technical solution of high performance and quality that accelerated the development of application and allowed the creation of a front-end extremely friendly for end-users, in real-time. Simone Bertu Project Management

The Comments The first step of the KPI Project was successfully implemented and our Corporate Management is pleased with that. The Xtreme Reporting solution was a vital part of this project and we would have not accomplished it on time without XRpt. Lucas Marinho Corporate Accounting We have just finalized the first part of our global KPI Project and the Xtreme Reporting was a very useful tool to input the information needed into the system. Xtreme Reporting provided access to many users of Magnesita in different countries, spending less time and less money in the project. Gustavo Amorim Controlling Department

The Comments Since 2010 we have developed our EPM initiative based on SAP BPC. We incorporate the application "Xtreme Reporting" due to technical and function leverage achieved on our technical environment (SAP BPC, SAP BW and BO).Therefore, words like "Speed", "Flexibility" and "Ease" accurately reflect the efficiency factors of the project and validates our options. Sérgio Rosin IT & Telecom Management The architecture BPC-BW-xCelsius designed for Corporate KPI at Magnesita was fully satisfactory and successfully met the demands of the project. Facing a challenging schedule, the speed of implementation was certainly the highlight of the solution. The friendly use of the reports, as well as the simplicity of data handling also stood out.
