1 Industry Sector Industry Automation Division July 5, 2013 Background Information EMO 2013 Siemens PLM Software Product Lifecycle Management Software Solutions (PLM) Siemens offers a range of applications that support the lifecycle of a product from concept idea through to manufacture and in-service support. The well proven software covers CAD, CAE, CAM, and multiple levels of engineering data and process management applicable to all sizes of discrete manufacturers, machine tool builders and users. By including PLM software, Siemens is able to offer complete process support for many industries including aerospace, machinery, automotive and medical devices. The key topics to be presented at EMO 2013 by Siemens PLM Software include: 1. Scalable part manufacturing solutions from job shop to manufacturing enterprise 2. The latest version of NX CAM with industry focused enhancements 3. The Manufacturing Resource Library (MRL) and its support for standardized cutting tool information from multiple vendor Part Manufacturing Solutions scalable from job shop to manufacturing enterprise Siemens PLM Software is able to bring together a complete set of capabilities that can support a connected process from part model to the machine tool. For smaller machine shops the solution is focused on the value of NX manufacturing applications, especially NX CAM, supported by a full set of powerful NX CAD functions for part model preparation, fixture and tool design. Integrated simulation and post processing provide program validation and machine tool ready output. NX CMM Inspection Programming can be added as an NX based expansion to provide automated, PMI (Product and Manufacturing Information) driven programming using the same NX 3D model. 2 A scalable solution from part to production. For the larger manufacturers the addition of Teamcenter technology supports the NX applications with a comprehensive set of data and process management, tool and resource libraries and part process planning functions. Shop Floor Connect for Teamcenter provide easy and effective information delivery to the shop floor directly from Teamcenter eliminating the need for standalone shop floor data management as found in traditional DNC packages. The solution can connect to the Sinumerik Integrate applications from Siemens that offer shop floor tool data management. Enhanced CAM solutions for key industries New capabilities have been added in NX9 to provide new capabilities in each of the key application domains of mold and die, prismatic part and complex part machining that NX CAM addresses in one consistent system. Each of these areas of capability in NX can be mapped to the major industry based solutions offered by Siemens. For mold and die machining, applicable for automotive and high tech electronics components, the new capabilities include Interactive Region Based Programming providing a new level of control in planning machining strategies. The benefits include faster machining and superior finishing. New rest material machining functions provide much greater efficiency in addressing uncut areas. High speed non cutting moves with new techniques for engage and retract motion reduce overall cycle times while protecting high quality surface finish. : EMO 2013 PLM Software Page 2/5

3 Prismatic part machining is found typically on machinery parts, but also required in nearly all machine shops across a wide variety of users. The latest version of NX includes updates to the volume based programming capability first introduced in NX 8. Volume Based Programming in NX provides significant reductions in programming times with an ease of use that is not seen in traditional prismatic part programming systems. Multi-part programming for prismatic parts. In the area of complex part programming the NX Turbomachinery Milling module has been further developed to add more capabilities needed for complex multibladed rotational parts. Many of Siemens customers in the gas turbine industry have adopted this new technology since its first introduction in NX 7.5. To support the connection of NX CAM to advanced machine tools Siemens continues to work closely with a number of major machine tool manufacturers to create machine tool support kits. These kits, such as those developed jointly with DMG, include proven post processors, machine tool simulation models and drivers, test examples and comprehensive user documentation to ensure rapid and successful implementation. : EMO 2013 PLM Software Page 3/5

4 The Manufacturing Resource Library (MRL) and access to standardized tool catalog information from multiple vendors Siemens PLM Software is working in collaboration with a number of key cutting tool manufacturers including Sandvik Coromant, Iscar and Kennametal with the objective of enabling tooling information to be available from the vendors in catalogs that are based on a standardized format. This data standardization will make it much easier and faster for end customers to utilize this critical information within their part manufacturing solutions, within tool library software, within shop floor tooling systems and in commercial systems. The approach adopts and builds on the ISO standard for cutting tool definitions which a number of the key tooling vendors assisted in defining. Initial sets of data based on an agreed Generic Tool Catalog (GTC) are expected to be available from the participating vendors later in The Manufacturing Resource Library (MRL) from Siemens provides an advanced tool library capability and utilizes Teamcenter database technology. The MRL is already configured to access ISO13399 based cutting tool data and will be on show at EMO with sample data. The demonstration will show how from standardized vendor catalog data can be imported, moved selectively into a my components area and then used in building vendor specific tool assemblies. The integration with NX will be show how the tool assemblies including 3D models, can be used in NX CAM when tools are selected for programming machining operations. Connecting NX CAM to the MRL. In addition the new MRL Direct Connect for NX makes it attractive and easy for NX CAM users in smaller shops to connect directly to a standalone installation of the : EMO 2013 PLM Software Page 4/5

5 Manufacturing Resource Manager (MRL) while operating within a native operating system environment. This provides a simple implementation for tool library support and opens a possible expansion path to a wider use of Teamcenter technology for data and process management, shop floor data connection and more.
