Monitoring and Reporting Business Drivers Monitoring Prevent unplanned outages Notify IT staff about looming problems before they become critical Automatically take corrective action Provide real-time and historical views of the following:» Resource utilization» Resource allocation» System configuration settings Reporting Provide historical resource utilization reports Using historical data, provide utilization forecast reports for capacity planning Report creation and customization to support business and IT focus 2

IBM Tivoli Monitoring 3

IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) Overview ITM is a monitoring and data storage tool used to improve detection, recognition, and response to incidents affecting the IT infrastructure Monitor cross-enterprise resources (IBM and Non-IBM) Establish your own or have ITM suggest performance thresholds Raise alerts to the console and run automated responses Trace the causes leading up to an alert All metric data saved in data warehouse Define summarization and pruning policies Dozens of default workspaces for each agent. Customize these workspaces or create new ones Interactive graphs. Can zoom or drill in to get detailed view Role-based authentication local or LDAP Create custom groups of users and systems 4

IBM Tivoli Monitoring The Industries Most Extensive Resource Monitoring 5

High Level Architecture View Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEPS) provides visualization Tivoli Data Warehouse (TDW) provides historical data storage Hub Tivoli Enterprise Management Server (TEMS) Remote Tivoli Enterprise Management Servers provide scalability (RTEMS) Managed Servers can be monitored via agent or agentless technology Smaller environments can have all servers installed on the same LPAR Most engagements we perform install the servers across two LPARs (TDW, Summarization on separate LPAR) Tivoli Enterprise Portal User Universal Agent / Agent Builder Hub Tivoli Enterprise Management Server Tivoli Enterprise Portal Server Remote Tivoli Enterprise Management Servers Managed Servers Tivoli Data Warehouse Agentless Agent Agent Agent Agent Agent Agent 6

IBM Tivoli Data Warehouse (TDW) Tivoli Data Warehouse is the backbone repository and central data store for all historical management data and the basis for Tivoli reporting The data is stored, pruned and summarized for ease use and cost savings. Centralized and consolidated data is crucial to reducing mean time to recovery Side-by-side historical data assists in separating intermittent from reoccurring problems from peak workloads Real-time and Historical Data 8

IBM Tivoli Monitoring System P Agents HMC agent install on AIX LPAR (NIM Master is a good choice) Provides configuration information on all CECs/LPARS connected to the HMC Events to notify operators/administrators of LPAR moves, adds or deletes Monitors the resource (CPU, memory, storage, network) usage on the HMC VIOS Premium agent preinstalled on VIOS Mapping between physical network / storage devices and virtual devices Device Status CPU/Memory usage Storage I/O & disk usage Physical Network Adapter bandwidth utilization; SEA throughput/vlan throughput 9

IBM Tivoli Monitoring OS Agents Unix OS agent install on each AIX LPAR Collects hundreds of metrics for real-time and historical views File, Disk, Network, CPU, Process, Memory, NFS, Users, AMS, I/O stats, etc Monitor for throughput and utilization AIX-specific data and views IBM i Agent install on each IBM i LPAR Collects hundreds of metrics for real-time and historical views File, ASP, Network, CPU, Job, Memory, IFS, Users, JOBQ, MSGQ, System Values, I/O stats, etc Monitor for throughput and utilization IBM i specific data and views 10

Tivoli Common Reporting 33

What is Tivoli Common Reporting TCR is a common shared component across Cloud and Smarter Infrastructure. It adds value to solutions by simplifying how historical information is visualized and shared. Helps you leverage your Tivoli data to show history and trends and answer questions like Which of my servers are under- and over-utilized in CPU, disk or memory? What is my server inventory by manufacturer? Works with standard, out of the box Tivoli product reports that visualize key metrics and trends All ITM Power Agents (Unix OS, HMC, VIOS, etc) ship pre-defined TCR reports Includes both Cognos and BIRT report engines; standard report templates for Tivoli Deployed with 60+ products. Highly active in the field supporting > 4,500 customers 34

IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) Enablement (AIX Enterprise Edition) Implement enterprise monitoring with event automation and historical analysis Service Overview: Helps install, configure and exploit the capabilities of the ITM components of IBM AIX Enterprise Edition. Features: Our consultants will assist your team to implement ITM in a proof of concept environment to demonstrate the benefits of the rich monitoring function provided by ITM. Servers monitored include AIX, Linux, HMC, VIOS, and IBM i. Data collected by the Monitoring Agents is populated into the Data Warehouse, where the Summarization and Pruning Agent will provide aggregation and pruning functions on the data Installation of Performance Analyzer extends the capability of ITM by analyzing and enriching the data that is collected by its monitoring agents. This service provides a basis for Tivoli Common Reporting, which provides reports about the performance and capacity of your systems The deliverable is an ITM engagement summary document outlining: Brief overview of your environment Summary of ITM installation and configuration work performed. Next steps Service Benefits: Helps improve overall operational savings by effectively implementing ITM with reduced risk of downtime and disruptions Learn More: 44
