2 IT implementation for SME/SMB s Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs)/Small and Medium Business (SMBs) known for their skilled products and employment generation capabilities have been growing at a fast pace in emerging economies. They are ambitious to catapult into the next league and have been implementing new methodologies. One thing that would differentiate a successful SME/SMB from the rest is its ability to use technology as a competitive edge. It has become a necessity for SMEs/SMBs to keep up with the rapidly changing technology and productivity systems in their business. They constantly look for new channels to market, while improving quality of their products or services. To fulfil their needs, SMEs/SMBs are in a dire need to adopt the rapidly evolving technologies that could redefine their business. At the other end there are Information technology service providers who have been coming up with cutting-edge Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions for better operations and productivity. But the question is - How can SMEs adopt these? The Dilemma While the growth is highest in this segment, the existing services are not able to keep pace with the market changes and satisfy all the needs. In addition the vast dynamics

3 throw out new complexities which may not be solved by the traditional approaches. The most important complexity is the need for the technological leverage and its quick obsolescence. The increasing growth thrusts the organization to satisfy new markets and new demands. This expansion in turn requires the support of more sophisticated software which again pulls in additional costly hardware. Some of these demands may be software with customizable features, new collaboration tools, business application and integration with the social media. As such the aspirations of the SME/SMB are bottled by these costly investments. Additionally the consultants fail to have a firm grip on many of the outside the textbook problems that are common in these sector. The Need Technology is critical for a SME/SMB s leadership in cost effectiveness, compliance, service quality and business growth. To help companies to think big and grow fast we need a new model of Information Technology Business Application. While technology has come of age it needs to be leveraged with the correct business model, a model which is not currently offered by the current large players. One dimension of these models can be delivery of business service on a demand basis and not as a package. This build as you grow or pay as you use model will be an integrated house of hardware, software applications, network framework coupled with business, technical and consulting services and services can be shared. Problem Statement: The current stagnancy in the economy has reduced the growth forecast of many IT Companies. Feeling the stress in the returns, one of the big players in IT Services and Consulting is considering foraying into new segments like SME/SMB s. Being new in this area they want to have a thorough analysis report of the business issues and the IT Channels which can be used for service before they enter this market. Currently they have identified the below sectors Manufacturing Wellness Education Retail

Deliverables Recommendations for the framework should cover all the possible layers which includes hardware, software, network, etc. for the corresponding solution Analysis of the tools used for mapping the solution to the problem areas Market opportunities in the SME/SMB segment Scalability (Transferable across businesses/ markets/ geographies) of the solution Model for revenue generation of IT service providers from SMBs clients Note: While designing the solution, participants should focus on Analysis of problem areas and Reasons for selecting the particular tools for recommended IT solution.
