3 Introduction Have you been able to be informed about the functional enhancements concerning batches in the SAP ERP area? Most of us don t find the time to read the comprehensive release notes of ERP 2004 and ERP Therefore this smart document was created. Please read it and have a look at the new functions and applications SAP provided to ease your daily work. Stay tuned! Documentary Batches (ERP 2004 [ECC 5.00]) As of SAP ECC 5.00, you can use documentary batches. Documentary batches ensure the traceability of a material, without it being necessary for the stock of the material to be managed in batches. This enables you to trace batches more easily. The main advantages are: Decreased complexity Decreased effort in entry, inventory, and confirmation Lower costs for inventory management In the event of callback campaigns, you can use the existing batch where-used list (transaction MB56) for documentary batches. Scope: You can activate the general use of documentary batches in Customizing. You can only enter documentary batches in certain functions (for example, goods receipt, transaction MIGO). You can define in Customizing whether documentary batches must be entered in these functions. You can enter documentary batches in the following functions: Goods receipt for external procurement with transaction MIGO (MB*- transactions are not supported) Goods receipt and goods issue for subcontracting with transaction MIGO (MB*- transactions are not supported) Goods receipt from production and goods issue to production Confirmation for a manufacturing order (not in maintenance of manufacturing orders) Picking of the outbound delivery Transfer order (Warehouse Management LE-WM) You can define the entry of documentary batches for certain material types. You must enter the batch number manually. Alternatively, you can let the system propose the batch number by using the Business Add-In (BAdI) Documentary Batch (VBDOCUBATCH). You can post materials that must be managed in batches, documentary batches, and materials that do not have to be managed in batches, in one document. You can enter multiple documentary batches for each document item. If you enter more than one documentary batch for a document item, no automatic quantity split takes place. You can however, define the check of the quantity split in Customizing. You can use the batch where-used list for documentary batches (transaction MB56). The following constraints apply to the use of documentary batches: 2007 SAP AG 3

4 Functions that are based on Radio Frequency Identification Technology (RFID) are not supported. For materials that must be managed in documentary batches, it must be possible to distinguish between the batches by means of bar codes or labels. Neither serial numbers nor handling units are supported. Effects on Customizing: You make the necessary settings in the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Logistics General (LO) under Batch Management: Activate the use of documentary batches in the activity Activate Documentary Batches. Define the use of documentary batches per material type in the activity Define Entry per Material Type. Define the use of documentary batches in the selected processes in the activity Define Entry for Manual Process Steps. If necessary, you can implement the Business Add-In Documentary Batch in the activity BAdI: Documentary Batch. See also: For more information, see the SAP Library, under Documentary Batch in the component Batch Management (LO-BM). Structural Change in Batch Management (ERP 2004 [ECC 5.00]) As of SAP ECC 5.00, you will also find the settings for Documentary Batches under Batch Management. The following activities are new: Activate Documentary Batch Define Entry per Material Type Define Entry for Manual Process Steps BAdI: Documentary Batch LO-BM-WUL Batch Where-Used List Pick-Up List: Batch Where-Used List Display in MB56 (ERP 2004 [ECC 5.00]) Until now, the top-down and bottom-up analyses in the function Pick Up List for Batch Where-Used List (transaction MB5C) where only displayed in the form of simple output lists. As of SAP ECC 5.00, the function Pick-Up List for Batch Where-Used List branches to the batch where-used list itself (transaction MB56). In addition, you can define how the data in the Batch Where-used list is displayed, in the initial screen. You can use all the settings that are available in the batch where-used list, for example, Expand Transfer Posting or Display Vendor Batch. However it is not possible to limit the selection to Valid Plants in the initial screen of the pick-up list.
