PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE University of Southern California, Playa Vista, California, United States Managing IT Director July 2015 Present Managing IT Director at the Center for Social and Economic Research at the University of Southern California. He is co-responsible for providing support to realize CESR's IT requirements. Specific responsibilities include several large scale data collection projects in the Understanding America Study (e.g. the HRS studies), the development of the innovative survey system NubiS, the overseeing of data dissemination, and the provision of technical management for the CESR blog. University of Southern California, Playa Vista, California, United States Senior information analyst July 2013 June 2015 Senior information analyst at the Center for Social and Economic Research at the University of Southern California. Primary responsibilities range from the development and management of both small and large scale survey projects, the design and implementation of new data collection tools, and the deployment of surveys in the Understanding America and America Life Panel survey panels. RAND Corporation, Santa Monica, California, United States Research programmer October 2008 June 2012 Research programmer at the RAND Corporation. Primary responsibilities encompass the design and implementation of new surveying tools; as well as the development, deployment and maintenance of surveys for clients. Made significant contributions to the existing surveying information system MMIC leading to multiple new releases of the software, and implemented new tooling on top of the MMIC system. Led efforts for improving the quality of the American Life Panel (ALP) data collection and data dissemination processes. Developed and managed surveys for data collection in support of both Rand and external research activities in a diverse range of topical areas. Provided training on MMIC survey programming to multiple clients in small groups. Gave presentations on surveying in context of MMIC and the ALP in various settings. Tilburg University, Tilburg, The Netherlands Project manager February 2008 August 2008 Work package manager for the European Union-sponsored COMPAS project on the development of technology for compliance of information systems to organizational and legislative requirements. Primary responsibilities included compliance technology development, project management and team supervision. Developed compliance architecture, methodology and techniques, coordinated collaborative activities with 7 European partners (both from academia and industry), facilitated budget development and management ($ ), supervised project team (4 persons).

2 Google Inc., The Netherlands Quality rater November 2007 February 2008 Self managed quality rater for Google Inc. Primary activities involved evaluation of search results and testing of new search technology. Ministry of Traffic, Planning and Environment, The Netherlands Advisor functional architecture October 2007 November 2007 Senior advisor for the functional IT architecture of the ministry. Performed requirements analysis to identify proof-of-concept projects for constructing service oriented architecture in terms of IT system acquisition, evaluation of performance, and management. Established initial requirements identified several possible proofof-concept projects. Tilburg University, The Netherlands. Researcher, Infolab March 2003 September 2007 Researcher in the area of Service-Oriented Architectures, Business Process Analysis, Rule Management. Wrote and successfully defended doctoral thesis on On the adaptive development and management of business collaborations. Published in prestigious journals (such as International Journal of Business Process Management) and presented at international scientific conferences and workshops (including International Conference on Service Oriented Computing, Business Process Management, and E- Commerce). Collaborated closely with fellow researchers abroad in projects. Included a 1,5 year stay in Sydney, Australia developing techniques for business process and collaboration modeling, following post-graduate courses (Data warehousing, XML, System and Network Security, XML Technologies), collaborating with local researchers. Taught undergraduate-level Business Systems modeling course labs in the Information Systems program. Functioned as supervisor in 3 bachelor and 2 master thesis projects. CentER Applied Research, The Netherlands Software developer February February 2003 Software developer in national PIEC2 project on integration of information systems in the context of e-commerce. Developed an XML based language for re-usable web service compositions (comparable to re-usable WS-BPEL specification and execution) in collaboration with research team based on existing research on service components. Built a JAVA based CASE tool implementation for creating and managing web service compositions via a visually attractive GUI. PROFESSIONAL SKILLS Information Systems Extensive experience in requirements analysis, design and engineering of distributed information systems using wide variety of methodologies, methods and techniques including UML and RUP, service oriented architecture, model driven development, rule based design. Business Analysis Analyzing and improving business processes using (formal) modeling techniques, ranging from data analysis to process redesign. Experience with process languages like ebxml, BPMN, workflow (XPDL), UML activity diagram, process algebras, petrinets.

3 Requirements Management Assessing impact of changes to requirements on information systems and business processes, using rule system technology to increase flexibility of information systems (open source rule engines like OO jdrew), externalizing business rules (e.g. RuleML, WRL, OCL, formal logics). Enterprise Architecture Enterprise architecture analysis using well known architectural frameworks mostly Archimate, ARIS, Zachman. Compliance Management Identifying, analyzing and modeling compliance requirements for business processes following legislation like Basel II, IFRS, HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley. Software Engineering Technical skills for information systems including integration technologies (web services standards and applications e.g. WSDL,WS-BPEL), XML technologies (e.g. XML schema, XSL), design languages (e.g. HTML, XHTML and CSS), programming languages (primarily JAVA, PHP and JavaScript). Project Management Writing project reports, setting up project organization and executing projects, management reporting, team coordination. Public Speaking Experienced lecturer for information management programs. Main topics include UML modeling and business application programming. Speaker at international academic conferences. Presenter and instructor on surveying and survey software. Surveying Extensive experience in programming and managing (web based) surveys, for example in the Understanding America Study and the American Life Panel. Extensive insight into the inner workings of survey software with lead development of MMIC and NubiS. Familiarity with data analysis tools, most notably StatTransfer and STATA. Knowledge of data weighing methods as well as sample selection considerations and procedures.
