Without continuous high availability to its network equipment, the largest independently owned community bank in the heartland of the state would be unable to execute vital tasks, including completing customers business and personal transactions, maintaining online banking and bill pay, and extending loans and lines of credit. That s why the organization relies on an EatonT 9315 uninterruptible power system (UPS) to keep its critical systems up and running around the clock with added protection afforded by a preventive maintenance service plan from Eaton. The main core of our network runs on the UPS, and it s a good-size network, explains Joe Ruiz, vice president, director of support operations. That UPS is essential to our operations. It protects the whole shebang. Headquartered in southern San Joaquin Valley, Bank of the Sierra employs more than 500 personnel and operates 23 branch locations throughout Kern, Tulare, Kings and Fresno counties. Recently, its UPS solution was put to the test when the local utility provider was forced to shut down power in order to replace an underground cable. But when the power was cut during the pre-negotiated evening hours, the UPS responded. Our UPS stayed up and running for more than two hours, Ruiz reports, adding that the bank opted to turn off some non-essential equipment in order to extend runtime for more critical devices. Not only was Bank of the Sierra able to resume all of its regular operations

4 the next morning without any issues, the night shift was even able to continue working. Since its deployment seven years ago, Bank of the Sierra s 9315 UPS has not encountered a single problem, which Ruiz credits in part to annual preventive maintenance visits that are part of its ProActive Service Plan. The operations director also awards high marks to the Eaton field technician responsible for the UPS s ongoing health, Jerry Calzada. He s very familiar with us, and very familiar with the system, Ruiz says. It s really nice that we can so often get the same person back. Calzada s troubleshooting capabilities and product knowledge stand out to Ruiz, who compliments Eaton for ongoing, comprehensive training of its field technicians. I am a very punctual person, and I expect the same in return. The operations manager emphasizes that when it comes to service, personal relationship is paramount. Jerry is just a quality guy, he explains. He comes in and he does his job. A good, hard worker is difficult to find these days, Ruiz adds, but he is definitely that type. With the ProActive Service Plan complementing its UPS, Bank of the Sierra gains additional assurance of system uptime. When it comes to selecting a service provider, Ruiz says the most important factor is to engage a company with experience.
