4 Release Overview About this document This document contains information about the current release of Sage 300 Trade Specialty. Each Sage 300 Trade Specialty module is described in a separate section, which includes information about new features and enhancements for the release. About this release The 13.5 release of Sage 300 Trade Specialty includes enhancements and software fixes. For information about the changes made in a specific module, refer to the appropriate section in this document. Highlights of this release are listed in the following table. Online help Each Sage 300 Trade Specialty module includes online help, which provides information about procedures as well as items in the windows. To access the help in the software: In a window, click (the help icon button) or press [F1] to display the help topic for that window. In the Desktop, select Help > Search for help on, and then choose the desired module. To aid you in finding information, the online help for each module includes the following panes: Contents pane with an outline of the help with links to the help topics. Index pane with keywords that link to help topics related to that keyword. Search pane, where you can type text and click [Search] to locate that text in the help topics. For more information about using the online help, see the Sage 300 Trade Specialty Desktop help; (in the Desktop, select Help > Sage 300 Trade Specialty Desktop Help). Training Sage University offers live and recorded online training sessions to help you get the most out of your software. 6 Installation Installation For new installations to Sage 300 Trade Specialty, read the Sage 300 Trade Specialty Installation Guide. The guide includes system requirements and important installation information for the current release. This guide is available in the Knowledgebase, which is accessed from the Support Portal at NOTE: You can operate Sage 300 Trade Specialty with SQL Server 2008 SP3 or 2008 R2 SP1. New installations All new installations should start with the release, upgrade to , upgrade to 13.3, and then upgrade to Upgrade path The following table shows the supported upgrade path to the 13.5 release of Sage 300 Trade Specialty. Release Version Upgrade Path 13.3 or 13.4 Upgrade to x through 13.3 Upgrade to 13.3, and then to x through 10.3.x Upgrade to , and then to 13.3, and then to You do not need to uninstall the Sage 300 Trade Specialty software prior to upgrading. Update instructions You will receive a separate software notice that describes the steps necessary to update your existing software. It is important to follow these instructions carefully to avoid installation issues. The software notice also includes instructions for upgrading your company database. Before performing the database upgrade, make sure there is at least 50 GB of space available. The upgrade may take an hour or more, depending on the size of your database. 7 General Topics Excel 2013 compatibility The Sage 300 Trade Specialty software is now compatible with Excel 2013, so you can now export a workspace using Excel Adding new features and reports to your software As new features and reports are added to the Sage 300 Trade Specialty software, they are not automatically added to the existing roles and custom menus in Sage System Administration. You must manually add the new features and reports to the roles. NOTE: You must be a Sage system administrator to perform these steps. To add features and reports to a role: 1. In Sage System Administration, select Database Administration. 2. Under Databases, select the desired database. 3. Click the Roles tab. 4. Select a role that you want to have that feature. 5. Click Authorize features. 6. In the Authorize Features For Role window, select the check boxes before the features and reports that you want for that role. 7. Click [OK] to save the assignments of the features to that role. If you are not a Sage system administrator and you updated your software from an earlier version, some reports that you had access to prior to the upgrade may no longer be available to you. If this occurs, ask your Sage system administrator to authorize the reports for your role, as described above. If you created custom menus, you may want to add the new features and reports to those menus. 1. In Sage System Administration, select Database Administration. 2. Under Databases, select the desired database. 3. Click the Menus tab and select the custom menu to change. 4. Click Edit menu to the right of the menu name. 5. In the Edit Menu window, add a menu item for the new feature or report: a. Select the name of the module where you want to add the menu item. b. Click Create menu item to the right of the menu structure. c. In the Edit Menu window, type the name of the new menu item, select the feature or report in the structure, and then click [OK]. 8 General Topics d. If desired, click the arrow keys to change the placement of the menu item in the custom menu. e. Click [OK] to save the new menu item. 6. Click [OK] to save your changes to the custom menu. Custom report designs and reporting views Database and reporting view changes in Sage 300 Trade Specialty may affect your custom report designs and views. Contact your authorized business partner to discuss any issues relating to customization of reports and views. If you build custom reports or report views, you may want to refer to the Data Dictionary. It contains information about the core tables and views used by Sage 300 Trade Specialty. For more information, see the Sage 300 Trade Specialty Knowledgebase, which is accessed from the Support Portal at Compatibility with third-party applications If you use third-party solutions that are integrated with Sage 300 Trade Specialty, check with your software vendor prior to upgrading to ensure their product is fully compatible with this release. Compatibility with Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate (formerly Sage Timberline Office) Because of potential conflicts between Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate and Sage 300 Trade Specialty, do not install both Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate and Sage 300 Trade Specialty on the same computer. 9 Accounts Payable Bank selection for invoice lines Before you can pay an invoice, the invoice lines must have a bank specified for making the payment (in the Bank column on the Details tab of the Select Invoices to Pay window). Previously, when no bank was specified, you would have to navigate to each invoice line and select a bank in that column. Now, you can select a bank for Use Bank (a new drop-down list near the top of the window) to designate the bank to use for all of the selected invoice lines where this column is blank. Accounts Receivable There were no major updates to Accounts Receivable for this release. Cash Management [Reconcile] button availability Previously, the [Reconcile] button was sometimes not available when transactions resulted in a zero balance for the month. Now, the [Reconcile] button is available in this situation. Configuration and Tools There were no major updates to Configuration and Tools for this release. Desktop There were no major updates to Desktop for this release. General Ledger There were no major updates to General Ledger for this release. 10 Inventory Inventory There were no major updates to Inventory for this release. Job Management New Job Details workspace Job Management now has a new Job Details workspace. Use this workspace to view a list of jobs and see a variety of information associated with the jobs, such as their contacts, contracts, cost codes, subcontracts, purchase orders, invoices, and transactions. Payroll There were no major updates to Payroll for this release. Purchasing Invoiced totals that appear in other modules For lot price purchase orders, if an item was returned or the invoiced amount is wrong, enter a negative invoice. The system updates the invoiced total for the purchase order, which may also appear in the Job Management and Accounts Payable modules. For unit rate purchase orders, to compensate for over invoicing, you can create a negative invoice as long as the credit amount does not exceed the positive amount already invoiced. If the credit amount is less than the positive amount, the system updates the invoiced total for the purchase order, which may also appear in the Job Management and Accounts Payable modules. 11 Report Designer and Reporting Report Designer and Reporting Custom report designs and reporting views Database and reporting view changes in Sage 300 Trade Specialty may affect your custom report designs and views. Contact your authorized business partner to discuss any issues relating to customization of reports and views.
