3 What Users Say We added additional fields in Apollo to track what kind of IIB/IIIA is given for elective procedures, acute coronary syndrome, and ST elevation MI. We can view the trends to answer specific questions like, Are we using more Reopro or Integrilin? Which physicians use which medication? Once we had the data, we worked with physicians to target the optimal medications for each patient population and set up protocols. We want to know what kind of IIB/IIIA we are giving because of the huge difference in cost. We want to know the outcomes of patients receiving the different medications to see if it s actually worth the cost. Mia Stone Cardiac Program Manager Aurora Health Care Toolkit has made it easy for us to customize our system modules, helping us customize our data collection and reporting capabilities. We ve cut the hour it used to take to complete Medicare documentation down to 30 minutes or less. The local Medical Review Policy Report has set specific criteria to test patients enrolled in pulmonary rehabilitation for flexibility, power, and strength. This documentation used to be typed up manually. Now using Apollo, the process has been automated. We use picklists to auto-populate reports, eliminating typing paragraphs and saving keystrokes. 4 OhioHealth Marion General Hospital Improves Data Quality, Optimizes Care with LUMEDX Cardiology Software OhioHealth Marion General Hospital Highlights OhioHealth Marion General Hospital Marion, Ohio Intuitive system minimizes challenges for new users. Experienced users at Marion General find it simple to teach staff at other OhioHealth hospitals to create queries and run reports in the LUMEDX database and registry modules. Apollo Clinical Data Repository supports improved data integrity. Deploying Apollo across multiple hospitals has allowed the heart and vascular clinical program to improve ease-of-access and overall data quality. Ad hoc report generation made simple. When hospital leaders require information to support decision-making and quality improvement programs, clinical staff can quickly create up-to-date and specialized reports. OhioHealth Marion General Hospital relies on its LUMEDX cardiovascular information system (CVIS) to enable simple data storage and access, and to create detailed reports that support quality improvement initiatives. As a part of a large system of not-for-profit hospitals and healthcare facilities, Marion General is challenged with managing a high volume of patients in north central Ohio. The heart and vascular department is committed to delivering quality, timely care, and needed a system that allows staff to quickly share and understand patient information. This is where the LUMEDX Apollo Clinical Data Repository comes in. As the foundation of Marion General s CVIS, Apollo allows the hospital to aggregate patient data in one place. The hospital s staff also uses the system to run queries and reports on various areas of interest allowing for a deeper understanding of service line performance. With the findings from these reports, the cardiology department has enhanced data quality and streamlined processes.

5 Marion General s proven success has led to OhioHealth s implementation of Apollo across multiple hospitals within its system. An Intuitive System for New Users After OhioHealth announced that hospitals within the network would be installing the Apollo Clinical Data Repository, Amy Morris, a Cardiac Cath Lab nurse at Marion General, was brought in to train new users. Many people find the idea of change intimidating and may push back initially, says Amy. However, as soon as I demonstrate how simple it is to enter data, run queries, and create reports within Apollo, people immediately realize that it will make their jobs a lot easier. Improving Data Quality and Enabling a System-Wide View Installing LUMEDX cardiology software across OhioHealth hospitals enables heart and vascular departments to efficiently enter and access patient and procedural data. Users enter information at the point-of-care, ensuring that data stored within Apollo is comprehensive and accurate. Having Apollo at multiple hospitals also makes it easy for users to go in and see information from other facilities without having to key into an entirely different system. OhioHealth s staff has also begun utilizing the Apollo database to view the overall healthcare network s performance. Some employees use Apollo to pull data from each hospital in order to create a systemwide report, says Amy. We seem to be doing that more and more these days. The information helps management to understand what is going on at the macro level. I don t even try to go into another system to generate a report anymore. If I used a different system, it would take me forever and I could not even be sure that it would pull the information that I requested. Give me Apollo, and I can go in and create the report in five seconds. Amy Morris - BSN, RN, CCRN Cardiac Cath Lab OhioHealth Marion General Hospital

6 Creating Targeted Reports to Support Quality Improvement Having a consolidated data repository has not just made it easier for users to access CV service line information. It has also paved the way for specialized reports that support quality improvement initiatives. The hospital s administration and physicians often ask me to run a report, and I never know what kind of request I m going to get, says Amy. With LUMEDX, I know that I can go in and run any kind of report that they want. LUMEDX Solutions at OhioHealth Marion General Hospital Apollo Clinical Data Repository Interfaces Registries ACC NCDR Action Registry -GWTG ACC NCDR CathPCI Registry ACC NCDR ICD Registry STS National Database She uses the Apollo Clinical Data Repository to create reports on a number of topics, including: Volumes (by procedure, physician, and county) Mortality rates Readmissions Discharge medication Complications Appropriate Use Criteria (AUC) measures And more For example, when a hospital administrator approached her and asked if she could generate a report that showed whether or not volumes had improved in referred hospitals since OhioHealth implemented an outreach program, Amy was able to query the system and run the report easily. I ve even created reports for our pharmacy. They wanted to see the percentage of outpatients receiving a particular medication, and I was able to give them the information they needed, Amy says. The list goes on and on. Apollo is a never-ending resource.

7 Preparing for the Future of Healthcare As new healthcare mandates and advances in technology continue to exert pressure on healthcare organizations, Amy says that she feels confident in Marion General s ability to remain current and on the cutting edge of healthcare. I went to a regional meeting where many healthcare providers were worried about having to completely revamp their systems in order to become Accredited Chest Pain Centers, Amy says. I told them that I was already able to provide all the requested information. With the LUMEDX platform, I can generate reports that capture every single patient that had a catheterization procedure, what medication they were on, how long they were in the hospital, and more. Amy says that often, the clinical staff members that she talks to at other hospitals are impressed when she tells them how much she can do in Apollo, and by the sheer breadth of information that is housed in the database. The LUMEDX database is very powerful, and there s so much that you can do with it, she says. I ve been working with it for years, and I m still learning new things that help our hospital to track its outcomes. We know that this system will help us pinpoint areas where we can improve in the future. Make the most of your CVIS investment and participate in LUMEDX User Group calls. One of the best resources I ve discovered is the LUMEDX monthly user calls. I try to listen to all of them, and I always learn something from what other people share. I ll hear a small tip, and something just clicks. I can go back to work and make my life so much easier with these tips and tricks that I learn!
