2 Slide 2 - Slide 2 This video will show you how to find a SWOT analysis using two key business resources: Lexis Nexis Academic and Marketline Advantage. Page 2 of 40

3 Slide 3 - Slide 2 A SWOT analysis is a basic framework for assessing a company's competitive position and informs many business decisions. A SWOT analysis examines the favorable and unfavorable conditions that exist in a company's external and internal environment. Specifically, SWOT refers to Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Let's look at Lexis Nexis Academic first. Page 3 of 40

4 Slide 4 - Slide 4 To access Lexis Nexis Academic, start at the Library homepage at library.wlu.ca. Page 4 of 40

5 Slide 5 - Slide 5 Type Lexis Nexis Academic into the search box in purple menu bar at the top, just above the Library's hours. Then click "Go." Page 5 of 40

8 Slide 8 - Slide 8 Once in Lexis Nexis Academic, click the down-pointing arrow next to "Search by Content Type" to display more options. Page 8 of 40

12 Slide 12 - Slide 12 Using the Select a Segment drop-down menu, select Company and then enter the name of the company in the parentheses. Page 12 of 40

15 Slide 15 - Slide 15 Now we are going to specify that we want a SWOT analysis. Using the Select a Segment drop-down menu again, select PUBLICATION. Page 15 of 40

17 Slide 17 - Slide 17 This specifies that we only want SWOT analyses for Blackberry, and not all content on the company. Only the most recent reports are retrieved, so there is no need to apply a date restriction. Page 17 of 40

29 Slide 29 - Slide by simply typing Marketline into the search box at the top right of the library homepage and clicking Go. Page 29 of 40
