C³PO Partners 7

How did C³PO come to be? ITEA PO Days 2013 Topic presented as a project idea by VTT and Sirris Interested parties converged - Originally 25 partners PO faze from 4 countries - All actors necessary present - Several contributors in each function of the technical value chain - Strong focus on business value for ecosystem actors from the start 8

Why C³PO started Facts / opportunities observed: - Five billion people likely to be living in cities by City design becomes complex, everything is impacting everything - Urbanisation challenges posed to cities are immense - IT starts providing opportunities at affordable cost for cities - Opportunity for smart support of the urban development never been greater Clear need to - Mitigate risk through better planning and prediction - Integrate new ecological context - Mediate a range of stakeholders with vested interests engaged in the urban development 9

C 3 PO main focus Enhancing the city planning by co-design It requires: Simple access of different sources of information Visualization of information relevant for decision-making Simulation of different scenarios Support of communication within stakeholders Static and dynamic data Up-to-date quality of information 10

C 3 PO answer Tackle the challenges confronted by urban design by ICT through a Cloud collaborative and semantic platform for city co-design Covers the whole urban project development process where cities empower, encourage and guide different stakeholders to develop an urban project together. Involves citizens, decision makers, architects, etc. 11

C³PO Pre-requisites Utilise existing applications and data sources Overcome limitations of current solutions in city co-design Provide - Multi-dimensional information integration - Supporting stakeholder interactions - Design cooperation - Dynamic simulation of impact - Versatile reporting & visualisation - Repository & platform scalability Use standard and open API technologies Allow open access to its data assets 12

What will it be? Will be an open and generic intermediary that enables the interaction between existing applications through a unique multi-dimensional repository covering the different types of information in city co-design - like GIS, BIM, electricity grids, traffic, etc. Visualization Participation Simulation Screen X App1 Mobile Y App2 Stakeholders Does not intend to replace or modify existing applications offering unique but partial solutions of city co-design - simulation tools, open API, 3D modelling and visualisation, gaming tool, etc. Integration Data sources Open API Data source C 3 PO Platform Open API Data source 13

C³PO WP Structure Value chain / Work Packages 14

Value chain collaboration 15

C³PO answered challenges in city codesign Easy access to all relevant information Presentation of the information Improvement of participation Transparent co-design process Tacit knowledge Group dynamics 16

We are targeting 1. Citizens: - residents - users of local services 2. Planners & experts: - urban area planners including - civil engineering, - greenspaces and - traffic 3. Communities, organisations and associations 4. State and regional authorities 5. City councillors 6. Organisations within municipality, different boards and departments like - healthcare, - schools, - leisure time, - electricity, - building, - water etc. 7. Businesses: - existing companies and - potential new ones 17

Value for stakeholders C³PO Platform Data Providers ICT Companies Citizens Cities Data asset made available to ICT companies New business opportunities New business opportunities Vertical integration with other applications New market Enhancing the application value to current customers Accessing to a higher amount of data compared to the current use Living environment and sense of belonging in their city New ways for citizens to participate in improving their place to live and work Improved decision making process: reducing cost and duration of the decision process Mitigated urban development risk through better planning and prediction 18

City trials

City trials - Belgium Kortrijk - Station and Kortrijk Weide - Mobility in the area - 3D visualization of the near future, with the ability to interact with citizens Brussels - Delta Triangle - 3D visualisation of a building under construction and a future mixed area CHIREC hospital group (currently under construction) Future mixed area with public and commercial buildings 20

City trials - Finland Kouvola - Pedestrian street in the Kouvola city center, Railway station area, Market Square - Different visualization modes Oulu - City of Oulu has 2 trial candidates for C3PO - Karjasilta, a traditional single family housing area close to City Centre - Totally new suburb in its planning phase, Hiukkavaara 21

City trials - Turkey Pendik Municipality - Downtown Region and Urban Transformation Area in Pendik/İstanbul - 3D Visualisation and Interaction with the 3D models 22
