FY 09- MILESTONES Completed In Progress Milestone 1 Procure SeaPRISM system. COMPLETED. Milestone 2 Send the SeaPRISM system to the AERONET project at GSFC for filters and calibration. COMPLETED. Milestone 3 Receive the GSFC calibrated SeaPRISM back at OSU, set it up and test operations and data stream. In Progress. Milestone 4 Work with colleagues in Southern California to identify and gain permissions to use a suitable site for the SeaPRISM. In Progress. Milestone 5 Set up the SeaPRISM on Platform Eureka and initiate data collection. SCHEDULED to begin in April Milestone 6 Develop methods for validation of VIIRS data with SeaPRISM data (report). In Progress.

Milestone 1. Procure SeaPRISM system. We Initiated procurement of the SeaPRISM in July The SeaPRISM was delivered d to OSU December 1, The SeaPRISM was set up and we completed acceptance testing of the SeaPRISM in early December Completed. Milestone 2. Send the SeaPRISM system to the AERONET project at GSFC for filters and calibration. Brent Holben at the AREONET project at GSFC agreed to add the SeaPRISM to the AERONET program. We delivered the SeaPRISM to Alex Tran at AERONET and the correct filters have been installed and it has been calibrated by GSFC. Received it at OSU on March 3, Completed. Milestone 3. Receive the GSFC calibrated SeaPRISM back at OSU, set it up and test operations and data stream. We are adding a ruggedized PC and modifying the SeaPRISM for use over the internet. Task to be completed by the end of March In Progress. SeaPRISM being tested at OSU, March 17, 2010

Milestone 4 Work with Burt Jones, University of Southern California to identify and gain permissions to use a suitable site for the SeaPRISM. In Progress. LA/LB Harbor ~14km Platform Eureka 17 km south of Long Beach, CA

Milestone 4 Work with Burt Jones, University of Southern California to identify and gain permissions to use a suitable site for the SeaPRISM. In Progress. Pacific Energy operates Platform Eureka. They provide boat access twice daily. They have offered to provide us 110V power and 50mb/sec internet access with a fixed IP address. The location (yellow circle) on the platform appears to be excellent for SeaPRISM measurements which are taken to the south and west of the platform.

Establishing a SeaPRISM site on the Field of Regard: Burt Jones and collaborators make extensive in situ measurements in this area using moorings, gliders and cruises that will provide essential ancillary data for this effort. SeaPRISM to be installed and begin operation in April (Milestone 5)

Milestone 6. Develop methods for validation of VIIRS data with SeaPRISM data. (report). Efforts focused on geolocation of in situ data sets and matching up in situ and satellite data. We will begin using VIIRS proxy data from NRL SSC when it becomes available. In Progress. 1. Match up with SeaPRISM and USC Glider and Cruise Data. 2. Cross-calibration with other sensors (MODIS, MERIS and HICO). USC work done in Coordination with: 1. Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System 2. Minerals Management Service 3. State Water Resources Control Board Cruise and glider tracks on MODIS image. Platform Eureka is at yellow arrow.

FY 10- MILESTONES (Deliverables) Plans Milestone 7 Routine operation and maintenance of the SeaPRISM system for the year. (Deliverable data to AERONET and for VIIRS cal/val.) Scheduled to begin in April Milestone 8 Send the SeaPRISM to GSFC for annual maintenance and recalibration (Deliverable - calibration update). Scheduled for March Milestone 9 Demonstrate validation of VIIRS proxy data products using the SeaPRISM data (Deliverable - demo and report) Scheduled for winter 2011.

Status and Issues: Deliverable: Receive, modify and calibrate SeaPRISM 1. March Development status: 100% completed 3. Major technical issues and their impacts: None Deliverable: Selection of Site for SeaPRISM 1. January Development status: 100% completed 3. Major technical issues and their impacts: None Deliverable: Installation and operation of SeaPRISM 1. Expected end of April Development Status: 0% completed 3. Major technical issues and their impacts: Fabrication of mount. Electrical and communications provided by the platform operator.

Summary : Impact of Deliverables on Program: This site will provide a West Coast SeaPRISM, coastal validation site for VIIRS data that t is readily accessible and for which h additional corroborative measurements can be provided from ships moorings and gliders. Role of the milestones on IPO efforts (SDR/ EDR): SeaPRISM data and related ancillary data will be essential for validating VIIRS Remote Sensing reflectance and chlorophyll and other data products. Role of efforts on other partners: Collaborating with Ahmed, Arnone, Trees and Fargion to share experiences operating the SeaPRISM and sharing results and procedures for using the SeaPRISM data and ancillary data to validate satellite ocean color data products (MODIS, MERIS, VIIRS Proxy and HICO data, and after launch VIIRS data). Relationship to VIIRS Launch Schedule: The SeaPRISM will be installed and we will have 1 year experience operating it and validating Proxy VIIRS data products before the NPP launch. Thus we will be ready to use this data for validation of VIIRS Rrs and other products immediately after launch.
