Content Cloud Pathology Group s mission What Digital Pathology is Cloud Pathology Group history The proposed architecture The CPG Suite Why Cloud Pathology Group The guidelines Offer to the Hospitals

Cloud Pathology Group mission Improve diagnosis quality using digital pathology (better patient s compliance). Use technology to promote pathologists specialization and knowledge sharing (continuous training).

What Digital Pathology is Digital Pathology includes the full managent of a Department of Pathology including analysis and reporting of digital slides. The process converts histological and cytological slides into digital images using specialized scanners.

Digital Pathology benefits Easier centralization of laboratories by keeping the medical staff in the original workplace. This facilitate the activities of multidisciplinary teams (e.g. breast unit), with drastic cost reduction. Opportunity to specialize pathologists and make collegial diagnosis and consultations, involving the best pathologists without location restrictions. Creation of a DB of thousands of cases always available to support diagnosis, promoting the principle of sharing knowledge for a better quality of diagnosis.

Digital Pathology benefits Better monitoring of compliance with health guidelines and protocols. Use of image analysis SWs to standardize diagnoses. Possibility of automatic tracking of the work performed and improvement of Quality Control processes. Acceleration of young pathologists training. Managed use of the WWW to share knowledge and experience.

Cloud Pathology Group history TRIAL 2012 Cloud Pathology commenced its experimental activity in 2012 collaborating with 6 hospitals in order to verify the operational feasibility of digital pathology. The functionality under operational stress condition of the scanners provided by the market leader Companies was assessed. Besides, the congruence between the diagnosies made with conventional microscopy (1,400 cases for 7,200 slides) and the diagnoses made digitally by three independent pathologists was verified. WORKSHOP Cloud Pathology promoted two workshops, qualified ECM, which took place on June 23rd 1015 at the Palazzo dei Giureconsulti in Milan and on July 2nd 2015 at the CUOA headquarter in Altavilla Vicentina. At the 2 events took part many pathologists of Lombardia and Veneto SUITE CPG 1.0 The operating prototype was created at the Anatomic Pathology Service of the Busto The The operating prototype was created at the Anatomic Pathology Service of the Busto Arsizio Hospital (which includes three hospitals: Busto Arsizio, Saronno and Tradate). The main purpose was to define and validate a more efficient diagnostic process armonizing and integrating the diagnostic activity of the three hospitals thanks to Digital Pathology. BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT Focusing the business activity on strategic hospitals in northern Italy.

CPG proposed architecture The CPG architecture has been developed with the aim of being easily replicable, scalable, safe and performing at fair cost. Components: Central Hub based in Milan where are managed: Cloud access to CPG services The software infrastructure metadata of images DB located in hospitals Disaster Recovery and / or Backup services (if contractualized with customers) In each customer hospital: The scanner(s) Media for storing images High definition monitor

The Cloud Pathology Group Suite CPG proprietary software To manage the solution and interface the Laboratory Information System in WEB-based mode. Data Base Where there are thousands of images stored and managed by CPG. Viewer Our viewer is full integrated and it manages the images produced with the different protocols in use by the most widespread scanner manufacturers. Scanner CPG choose Hamamatsu's S360 Nanozoomer, which automatically processes up to 360 histological/cytological preparations.

The CPG Suite follows the workflow from the output of the cyto-histological preparations from the laboratory to the availability of images, at the work stations of pathologists, which are viewable, comparable and shared via WEB due to the integrated viewer.

The CPG Suite evolution Centralized management of the suite Autonomy in management at the level of the single hospital Focus on optimizing performance Step 1 Step 2 Extension of the suite to workflow optimization to make the most of digital Analysis Software integration Integration with complementary disciplines (Genomics, Molecular Oncology, Transplantation Network) Step 3 Next step: Artificial Intelligence

Why Cloud Pathology Group Activities of the 1st experimentation of Hospitals (in vitro) 7200 slides - about 2500 cases. (Della Mea and Others, Preliminary Slide Scanner Throughtput Evaluation in a Intensive Digitalization Facility Setting. Diagnostic Pathology 2013,8) Activities in the hospital to improve the CPG Suite Hospital on 3 poles (in vivo) 30,000 slides - about 7500 cases Over 11,000 hours of testing - 15 pathologists involved Benchmarked processes and activities with Department of Pathology - Linköping University Hospital (Sweden). Sector competence the "A New Pathology" project in the context of Horizon Research and Innovation Framework Program- of the European Commission, has obtained the Seal of Excellence Certificate. As-a-service offer drown on customer requirements.

Cloud Pathology Group guidelines Support the growth and the development of the Departments of Pathology. Integrate critical components (LIS, scanner, etc.) independently from suppliers. Dematerialize the slides allowing the virtual management of the professional tasks. Ensure continuous improvement of solutions, supporting their evolution over time, following the market developments, not limited to a single supplier.

Offer to the Hospitals Realization of a joint experimentation in order to define a way for the progressive implementation of Digital Pathology in the daily routine according to the following reference scheme: a) The Hospital defines the needs and CPG carries out an assessment to identify the implementation methods, based on the CPG Suite, to guarantee the best allocation of resources minimizing the costs for the structure. b) CPG provides the HW and SW infrastructure to start with a Digital Pathology activity and to deepen and verify the issues identified in point «a». c) The costs of the service will be as follows: I. Free loan assignment of the CPG Suite II. Customization of the CPG Suite on the needs of the Hospital Assistance for the start-up period when fully operational III. Monthly cost of the service
