2 Mission To support Research & Development (R&D) activities and programs nationally and internationally at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research with advanced information technologies (IT) and knowledge solutions.

3 Objectives Provide scientific consultation and technical services. Support and develop scientific and technological infrastructure, in terms of information sources and scientific IT applications. Knowledge management for KISR.

5 Area of Services 1) Information Services iportal Provide information resources related to science and technology.

6 NSTIC iportal 1) Search Engine: In both English and Arabic, for searching or browsing all of the NSTIC holdings and collection including books, periodicals, serials, KISR reports, trip reports and thesis. 2) News: About the latest news.

7 NSTIC iportal 3) Electronics resources limited to KISR network: Bibliographic Databases in science and technology such as ScienceDirect, Scopus, Cambridge Scientific Abstract, Books in prints, Ulrich s Periodicals, and Tulsa and IHS. Full text resources such as e-journals, e- books, British Standards (BSI) and etc.

8 NSTIC iportal 4) Open resources accessible by all such as: Kuwait daily news papers English and Arabic. Publication produced by information specialists at ISD such as bibliographies, papers and presentations. Subject Guides in research areas providing selected resources from the web. Marine Fisheries Library resources. Link to GESR database.

9 NSTIC iportal 5) Services offered through the site are: Current Awareness: provides a list of selected current awareness and alerting resources on the Web; and online user profile (for KISR users only). Documents Delivery: this is a form that allows users to request documents online. If the document is available electronically it would be sent to the requestor by . Reference: provides a list of some free reference resources on the web, and ASK Librarian online request form. Training: provides to both KISR-users and information professionals in the field of library and information service.

11 Area of Services (continue) 3) Kuwait Top Level Domain: Providing internet domain names for all Kuwaiti sites through flexible and accurate system and procedures. 4) Distance Learning Center: Partnering with global development learning network (GDLN), KISR offers State-of- art tools.

12 Area of Services (continue) 5) Kuwait Geo-Informatics center: Established in 1994, the center is committed to providing support to Geographic Information System (GIS) services, remote sensing, global positioning system (GPS), and other related technologies.

13 Kuwait Geo-Informatics center It provides the following: Research Data Approval, the Geoinformatics center is responsible to indentify whether needed data exists, needs to be allocated, or acquired from third parties. Research Data Collection, the required data is delivered from the Geoinformatics center to the relevant division, in a suitable format and manner.

14 Kuwait Geo-Informatics center Research Data Analysis, GIS data is analyzed, manipulated, illustrated, plotted and exported. Research Results Reporting, maps are produced as part of the analysis results.

15 NSTIC Resources: OnePetro is a new addition to NSTIC online resources, it is a multi-society library that provides a simple way research for access a broad range of technical literature related to the oil and gas exploration and production industry. International Standards and Specifications database is now searchable through IHS website, which covers a wide range of technical and industrial standards, such as API, ASTM and many more.

16 NSTIC Resources: SpringerLink is one of the world leading interactive database for journals, books series, books, reference works and the online Archives collection. Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of research literature and quality web resources. It is designed to find the information scientists need.

18 Tools to help you manage your references and retrieve up to date information RefWorks it is an online research management, writing and collaboration tool, is designed to help researchers easily gather, manage, store and share all types of information. RefWare it is a web based current awareness tool designed to provide researchers with immediate access to new research and publications in their field, all within hours of being posted online. RefShare is a tool for the global dissemination and publication of the databases and bibliographies

19 The protocol that NSTIC has in terms of data or information exchange: Government organizations are required to send NSTIC copies of their publications related to science and technology. Other locally generated data (such as meteorological or environmental) are acquired upon request, which NSTIC does annually. The library system that NSTIC uses is Z39.50 compliant for MARC exchange, and for data exchange.

Develop and support scientific and management databases for various activities of the institute. Develop integrated information systems to support the decision-making process. Use of database electronically by beneficiaries from inside and outside the institute.

Obtain continuous and upgrade coverage of scientific and technological domains. Promote existing relations with international information centers, establish new relations to ensure the acquisition of the latest innovations in different fields and place them at the disposal of the beneficiaries. Develop manpower in the field of information technology.
