1 GRANTA MI Materials Gateway for CATIA Versions 1.2 and Release Notes May 2013

2 Introduction GRANTA MI from Granta Design is the leading materials information management software system for engineering enterprises. GRANTA MI meets the disparate needs of the materials experts, product designers, engineering analysts, data publishers, and other professionals who work with information related to metals, composites, ceramics, plastics, and other materials. GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway enables data and tools from GRANTA MI to be accessed from within CAD, CAE, and PLM software. Users can access and browse a corporate materials database (and/or Granta-supplied reference data on materials properties), choose applicable materials, and assign those materials to parts within their design or simulation model. A variety of analytics, dashboard, reporting and data output tools are available, depending on the host system and the GRANTA MI modules licensed for your corporate installation. GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway for CATIA is an application running within the CATIA product design and innovation software from Dassault Systèmes. Scope of these Release Notes These Release Notes covers Versions 1.2 and of GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway for CATIA, which are compatible with CATIA v5 and GRANTA MI Version 6. For full documentation on MI:Materials Gateway for CATIA, please refer to: Installing MI:Materials Gateway for CATIA Follow the installation instructions available with the download, using the alphanumeric key from your company s GRANTA MI license agreement. Please note that, for CATIA, there are additional instructions that need to be followed after running the in order to complete the Gateway installation. If you have any problems, questions or feedback, please contact us: How can installing this software help you? Version 1.0 was the launch version of MI:Materials Gateway for CATIA. The table below shows the groups who will have specific interest in this product, and the categories in which further enhancements will be reported in future Release Notes. The initial launch version has been enhanced in subsequent point releases. Version 1.1 added some defect fixes and enhancements. Version 1.2 extended support to GRANTA MI Version 6, with some additional enhancements in Version These are detailed in the What s new? section below we recommend installing the most recent version compatible with your version of GRANTA MI.

3 Interest group Relevant features Key benefits Business process owners, for Materials Data Management Design/ CAD and Simulation/CAE communities CAD and CAE systems administrators Organizations aiming to manage risk associated with restricted substances Tools to provide centralized configuration by materials specialists of the company s approved materials database, for deployment to CAD and CAE user communities An application that is launched from within CATIA v5, providing access to the company s approved materials database, and interacting with Inventor assemblies to report materials assignments and guide materials selection Integrated Windows Authentication, HTTPS, proxy support Centralized Gateway configuration Modularization of functionality and dashboard/reports REACH dashboard to advise on risks associated with restricted substances PDF and XML reports of the resulting Bills of Materials Provide efficient access to the company s approved materials data to all authorized users in Design and Simulation communities Define user profiles, e.g., for particular projects, languages, or preferred materials lists; deploy throughout data user community Access to company s approved materials data for all authorized users in Design and Simulation communities Access to required materials data via user profiles, e.g., for particular projects, languages, or preferred materials lists Integrate approved materials information into design workflow, including XML output of enhanced BoMs Have immediate visibility of materials list, and part and assembly weight roll-up implications, using company approved data Choose deployment method for MI:Materials Gateway that satisfies company policies for security and authentication Control of access to required materials data via user profiles, e.g., for particular projects, languages, or preferred materials lists Straightforward deployment of base MI:Materials Gateway system, and options required by users Warning of restricted substances implications at the time materials assignments are first considered in design, and systematic assistance to help explore alternatives Integrate approved materials information into design workflow, including XML output of enhanced BoMs

4 Prerequisites and supported platforms CATIA: Client operating systems: CATIA V5 is required The software has been certified against CATIA V5 R19 Windows XP 32 SP3 Windows Vista 32 SP2 Windows 7 32 SP1 Windows XP 64 SP2 Windows Vista 64 SP1 Windows 7 64 SP1 Client web browser: As per GRANTA MI support policy GRANTA MI Version 6 requirements: With MI:Materials Gateway for CATIA Version 1.2 MI:Server: MI:Service Layer: Custom reporting package: With MI:Materials Gateway for CATIA Version MI:Server: MI:Service Layer: Custom reporting package: What s new since Version 1.0 Version 1.1 added the following defect fixes and enhancements: Version 1.2: Improved performance in synchronizing Bills of Materials, material assignment, and searching materials data Improvements to the installer for smoother installation More robust authentication and authentication logging, resulting in a more reliable connection to the GRANTA MI server, and improved diagnosis of connection problems Configurable part attributes: you can now add arbitrary text parameters to a part whenever a material, process, or finishing process is assigned to it. These are fully userconfigurable, and can contain any value from a record attribute in the GRANTA MI database. Support for GRANTA MI Version 6, providing support for the following new GRANTA MI features Multi-value attributes Supports databases built with GRANTA MI Version 6, taking advantage of multi-value attributes, the ability to store numbers or text values where the material property varies with conditions or other parameters. Cross-database reporting Supports the ability to include in reports data from more than one database, as enabled by the Integrated Databases capability.
