7 CASE STUDY SCENARIO VESSEL: 40m charter yacht From this we developed three specific functions. YEAR: Crew induction and training simulator 2. Guest safety induction platform 3. Maintenance function FULL REFIT: 2014 ISSUES AND CONCERNS High crew churn rate throughout the season requiring induction/training Level of specific yacht training and awareness for crew and the guests Overall guest safety / low retention level and frustration due to holiday mode Charter availability negatively affected due to unplanned breakdowns, overruns during maintenance activities and overall yacht management An interactive animation was created using the model which guides the new recruit through the yacht and a number of set challenges, such as locating and effectively starting the emergency generator. We also added in the provision to introduce random hazards and risks such as a blocked fire exit or alarm to provide a more complete and realistic training simulator. As this is a serverbased solution this could be done before the crew member arrives on-board. It is also integrated into a As the model is created as-built, every system and asset is located exactly where it is on the yacht. The application allows the engineer to simulate the fault and troubleshoot it before work starts.
