1 E-COMMERCE MARKETPLACE WEB & MOBILE E-COMMERCE FOR DAILY DEALS CASE STUDY VER: On the heels of the GroupOn debut, Vodafone moved to create its own mobile e-commerce marketplace to tap into its captive subscribers of businesses and mobile consumers. The opportunity was to push location-aware daily deals to subscribers and monetize the transaction to build on a loyal subscriber base. Zymr worked with Vodafone over eighteen months to develop from scratch a GroupOn like e-commerce marketplace leveraging Zymr SantaFe and Magento. Zymr helped launch this marketplace on Amazon AWS with initial debut in Europe fully integrated with mobile payment support. ZYMR, INC.

3 VODAFONE E-COMMERCE MARKETPLACE OVERVIEW Vodafone has a major thrust on bringing value-added services under its My Vodafone consumer portal. With a large captive subscriber pool that includes businesses and consumers, it was looking for new business models to keep these subscribers active with the brand. Vodafone had two main challenges: How to extend My Vodafone s features to keep their subscribers sticky with Vodafone? How to extend the business model further to provide ecommerce services? The idea of building a GroupOn style daily-deals mobile commerce framework was compelling. SOFTWARE IMPLEMENTATION The architecture comprised of multi-tiered scalable services, clearly defined ecosystem integration points, RESTful services, and extensible data models. For the business tier, Zymr leveraged its technology accelerator - SantaFe with an integrated automated campaign engine for location-aware deal promotion over and SMS. Zymr implemented integrated checkout and multiple payment gateways Credit Card, Mobile Billing (MT-Billing), PayPal, etc., developed a JSR 286 portlet for integration with the My Vodafone WebLogic portal, and also developed one-time password authentication over SMS for subscriber authentication. Zymr s solution supported SSO based RBAC with varied roles such as: Administration, Campaign Manager, Customer, HelpDesk/IVR User, etc. For the e-commerce tier, Zymr leveraged the popular Magento open-source ecommerce platform to host the catalog of daily deals from merchants, and provided Vodafone branded Web, ios and Android mobile apps for subscribers to browse for deals and add items to their shopping carts. Zymr architected a cloud DevOps environment for Amazon AWS, and executed CI/ CD DevOps using Jenkins, Puppet and Python. We tested for PCI compliance with Amazon AWS customer support. SUCCESS Vodafone s myvodafone ecommerce marketplace piloted this service in Romania with a planned roll out in Italy, Greece and other countries. Zymr delivered a highquality platform in record time. Deployment on Amazon AWS was in two pilot phases, followed by a General Availability release. During the first 90 days of the rollout, over 150,000 subscribers registered on myvodafone and actively transacted millions of Euros of commerce, for which Vodafone recruited 100+ registered merchants. Zymr was involved in CI/CD with 2 major upgrades and 4 maintenance releases over a period of nine months. Zymr s solution recorded a 99.95% uptime, meeting Vodafone s goals in this area. Vodafone assumed responsibility of this platform after eighteen months.
