Revolution in the electric power system - from centralization to decentralization Renewable energy sources increasing Consumers of electricity becoming producers Electromobility grows - may act as a producer or consumer Reduction of resources from fossil fuels - In decentralized systems, Energy flows to customers in unpredictable directions (could causes. unreliable supply). - It will be necessary to provide more Ancillary services.

We have to eliminate the limitations that appeared during the "transition phase in the energy sector" I II III Flexibility of Reactive power Compensation devices Flexibility of Active power SINCRO.GRID Battery storage Increasing transmission lines capacities Dynamic thermal rating IV VCBCC secure operation of the whole control area voltage control and loss optimization efficient and coordinated management of RES

Benefits of SINCRO.GRID Decentralizacija Increasing transmission lines capacities Graf, ki prikazuje naraščanje deleža OVE na ravni EU? Solved issues of voltage profiles Provide more ancillary services - frequency control Technological innovation with replication potential

Timeline and main steps of the SINCRO.GRID project Feb, 2015 Submission of PCI Nov, 2015 The project successfully applied for the 2 nd list of PCI projects. Nov, 2016 Submission of the action s application to the Connecting Europe Facility programme. Feb, 2017 May, 2017 EU Member states confirmed the EC s proposal to fund the smart grid project SINCRO.GRID Signed a grant agreement for CEF financing ASR - Preparation of documentation. - Publication of public tenders. - Implementation of the projects / activities System testing and optimization of all systems. application

Organizational chart The Action/PCI is organized in the form of a project management involving individual project managers

European Commission Innovation and Networks Executive Agency (INEA) Action Status Report (ASR) Reporting period: 2017 Connecting Europe Facility Reporting The Action is coordinated at Coordination meetings, Executive Board meetings and internal meetings within ELES s and HOPS s departments. Minutes are kept of all meetings. On a monthly basis, reports are regularly made for the companies management. Agencija za energijo Hrvatska Energetska Regulatorna Agencija

Public participation Presentations in EU and USA Public presentations to municipalities, events etc. General assembly, Executive Board, Coordination meeting

Public participation is also included through the following measures: - PCI Action web page: - Press releases about the Action and EU funding - Media articles about the Action and EU funding - Printed materials about the Action and EU funding - Other activities Transparency: All procurements are carried out according to EU public procurement Directives, national procedures, internal corporate acts, etc.

How to succeed? - Synergy effect of technical solution - Cooperation between Promoters - Communication with stakeholders - Management of project complexity - Smart grid dimension - new way of innovative thinking to handle current. and future changes

Conclusions - Communicate the project from the beginning - Keep the project awareness among partners high all the time - Solving real challenges in an optimal way - Thinking about financing from the beginning - Start environmental screening as early as possible - Use experienced consultant
