28 Synthesis: AP242, as the cornerstone standard of the A&D industries for 3D Model Based Design and PDM CM interoperability European A&D companies have started to use STEP AP242 in operation for 3D DMU exchange and 3D MBD long term archiving (including PMI) Certification of new aircrafts based on semantic 3D MBD and the introduction of the digital twins require a consistent set of ISO standards to support this digital thread: specification, definition, simulation, manufacturing, quality control, etc ISO AP 242 is the cornerstone standard of for interoperability of core 3D engineering design models Next priorities for 2019: To create of the CAx IF User Groups and of the Electrical Implementer Forum To consolidate the PDM IF activities with configuration management test cases To finalize AP242 e2 in March. 2019, including the harmonization with AP239 e3 To prepare the launch of AP242 e3 in 2019 The coordination of the European A&D standardization activities minimize the total cost of usage of COTS solutions for 3D MB Definition interoperability
