Lcate and recrd the API Terminal ID infrmatin fr each EMV payment device. Imprtant: The API Terminal ID is a value cnsisting f 1-32 alphanumeric characters. It is specific t each PIN pad, and it is specified by the merchant r pint-f-sale (POS) r prperty management system (PMS) prvider. Shift4 Payments suggests a naming cnventin that keeps the API Terminal ID unique acrss the merchant s entire enterprise. (Fr example, where 702 is the stre number and 11 is the lane number where the PIN pad is statined fr use.) The API Terminal ID must be set in the POS/PMS, UTG, and Lighthuse Transactin Manager. The value must match s that thse systems can identify the PIN pad being used during the transactin. Stp the UTG if it is running as a service, and start the UTG in Standalne mde. Frm the menu, select Tune Up. Click the Devices tab and then click the desired payment device t highlight it. Click View under the Device sectin. In the API Terminal ID field, recrd the API Terminal ID number fr the payment device cnfigured. 7 DEBIT. If cleared, the cardhlder will have t chse VISA DEBIT r US DEBIT n the device. The latter can be cnfusing t cardhlders, s yu may want t keep Prefer US Cmmn Debit selected. Quick Chip If selected, the cardhlder can remve their card sner (befre the authrizatin respnse is received n the device). In additin, the cardhlder can insert their card sner (similar t swipe ahead n nn-emv transactins). Enable Cashback (Canadian merchants nly) If selected, the device is enabled t prmpt fr cashback, but yu will nt be able t enable tip prmpting. Fr a cmplete list f supprted devices, see PIN Bypass: If selected, this ptin will allw the cardhlder t bypass entering their PIN n EMV transactins. This ptin can be used if the merchant is having issues with cardhlders nt remembering their PIN, r if the merchant wants t allw cardhlders t chse nt t enter a PIN fr any reasn. Hwever, there are liability shift implicatins t enabling this ptin if the issuer has prvided the card a higher level f EMV authenticatin by enabling PIN. If the merchant allws the cardhlder t bypass entering their PIN, then the fraud liability might shift back t the merchant. Selecting this setting can pen up a security hle where smene that has stlen anther persn's card can nw easily use the card by bypassing the PIN entry screen. PIN cdes are specifically used t prevent lst/stlen card fraud because the card wuld nt be usable unless the unauthrized user als had the cardhlder's PIN. Therefre, selecting this ptin is nt recmmended by Shift4 Payments. (If applicable) In the Cardhlder Verificatin Methds sectin, select r clear the desired ptins: 2019 Shift4 Payments, LLC. 11 Appendix A: Visa Debit Opt Out Explained Be prepared because this gets a little cnfusing When an EMV card is inserted int a payment device, the device and card lk fr cmmn Applicatin Identifiers (AIDs), and they select ne r prmpt the cardhlder t select ne. When Visa implemented EMV, they decided t put bth debit and credit n the same AID, called Visa Debit/Credit AID (A ), which is intended t prcess Visa debit cards thrugh the Visa debit netwrk. The result was that yu culd prcess Visa credit and Visa debit, r neither. This wasn t ideal, s Visa prvided the Visa Debit Opt Out ptin, which allws a merchant t pt ut f prcessing Visa debit cards thrugh the Visa Debit/Credit AID, while still allwing Visa credit cards t prcess thrugh it. Fr example, in Canada, this ptin allwed Visa credit cards t be prcessed thrugh the Visa Debit/Credit AID and Visa debit cards t be prcessed thrugh the INTERAC Debit AID. In additin, Visa develped the Visa Cmmn Debit AID, which is intended t prvide a chice f debit netwrks. S, if yu select Visa Debit Opt Out, yu may still be able t prcess Visa debit cards because they may be prcessed thrugh the Visa Cmmn Debit AID. T put it simply, if yu enable this ptin, there may be sme Visa debit cards that yu will nt be able t prcess because there isn t a cmmn AID between the payment device and card. Belw are tw examples: Example One: A Canadian merchant wh wants t accept Visa credit cards but prcess all debit cards thrugh INTERAC may want t select Visa Debit Opt Out. T achieve this, the merchant can take the fllwing steps: The merchant verifies their payment devices supprt the Visa Debit/Credit AID and the INTERAC Debit AID. In Lighthuse Transactin Manager, the merchant selects Visa Debit Opt Out fr their payment devices. Any debit transactins will use the INTERAC Debit AID, as lng as n ther debit AIDs are supprted n the payment devices. Example Tw: A United States merchant wh wants t accept Visa debit cards but prcess them thrugh the Visa Cmmn Debit AID may want t select Visa Debit Opt Out. T achieve this, the merchant can take the fllwing steps: The merchant verifies their payment devices supprt the Visa Cmmn Debit AID. In Lighthuse Transactin Manager, the merchant selects Visa Debit Opt Out fr their payment devices. Visa debit cards will be prcessed thrugh the Visa Cmmn Debit AID Shift4 Payments, LLC.
