Non-ambient solutions State-of-the-art in situ X-ray analysis made easy

PANalytical s approach to the implementation of non-ambient attachments is characterized by: Ease of use Versatility Delivering the best data quality Optimum results with a minimum number of user actions

Complete solution for in situ X-ray analysis PANalytical offers a wide range of non-ambient solutions placing in situ in front of nearly every application supported on our XRD instruments. Together with our suppliers and customers we are continuously increasing the number of available in situ options. Why in situ? Change of temperature, pressure, gas atmosphere, and so on, influences material properties, triggers chemical reactions or causes phase transformations. X-ray diffraction and scattering techniques are the first and sometimes the only choice for the correct and accurate in situ characterization of these changes. Temperature Cubic 1177 ºC Orthorhombic 25 ºC Seamless hardware integration 1 1 Quick and easy change to a nonambient setup thanks to the PreFIX concept, implemented on the Empyrean XRD platforms 2 19 rack mounts for non-ambient controllers, built in Empyrean and X Pert3 Powder enclosures 2

Full software support Data Collector the central toolbox for instrument control and data acquisition Automatic compensation for sample displacement The automatic height compensation mechanism is implemented in Data Collector to account for a displacement of a sample holder during heating/ cooling. The mechanism enables automatic correction of sample height as a function of temperature. A number of compensation tables for commonly used experimental setups is included in Data Collector. More specific compensation tables can be easily created by a user. Furnace heater L L = α L T Sample holder Ref.: application note "Measuring accurate peak positions in non-ambient XRD available on All experimental data are saved Apart from the full information about a measurement, the recorded temperature and, where applicable, humidity, are also saved together with the data in an XRDML file. Furthermore, a separate XRDML file with the programmed and measured profile is automatically created.

Easy and flexible method setup Data Collector offers a flexible interface for easy and straightforward programming of a non-ambient experiment. The programmed profile is visualized in real time providing an overview and helping to keep track of changes. At the end of the experiment the sample chamber is brought to room conditions to ensure a safe ending of the experiment. Further, the X-ray tube can be set to stand-by or even switched off at the end of an experiment. Automatic condensation-free humidity experiments Data Collector offers the thoroughly optimized automatic combined control of temperature and relative humidity for condensation-free experiments with both MHC-trans and CHC plus + Anton Paar chambers. The entire experiment (including the water bath of CHC plus + ) is under Data Collector control ensuring very smooth transition steps even at the highest temperature and humidity values. 6 Data visualization and analysis HighScore and HighScore Plus the most comprehensive powder diffraction software suite The HighScore software suite offers multiple options for the visualization and analysis of non-ambient data sets: Automatic user batches for data analysis Cluster analysis 3D plots Isoline plots Automatic output in Excel of the results of the automatic Rietveld refinement of 60 XRD patterns collected during heating of nano-tio 2 Reference: application note Automatic analysis of large amounts of X-ray diffraction data with HighScore Plus, available on: Clustering performed on large non-ambient data sets helps to optimize further data processing. 3D plot for high-quality data visualization

Long and successful co-development Together with our partners and suppliers of non-ambient equipment PANalytical strives to optimize and simplify non-ambient solutions for our users. Here there are just few examples: Oxford s Cryostream Plus Compact designed specifically for PANalytical diffractometers Unified easy-to-use high-vacuum system optimized in collaboration with Edwards Height compensation tables to correct for sample displacement during heating/cooling Integration of Anton Paar DHS 1100 enabling 360º rotation Optimized combined control of temperature and relative humidity for Anton Paar chambers Freedom of experiment design Get the most out of your non-ambient setup PANalytical offers full support of most of the non-ambient chambers and attachments. Details about all of them are included in the leaflets. However, upon request, integration of other non-ambient devices from various suppliers is possible. Please discuss your requirements with your local PANalytical sales representative and ask what PANalytical can do to offer you a tailor-made solution. Many aspects of non-ambient experiments on PANalytical diffractometers are made easy by combination of optimized hardware and software integration. To help our customers further we organize application courses (both, in-house and on-site), user days, webinars and continuously update our webpage with the new application examples and know-how. Please visit the knowledge center on for more information.
