The cost-effective programme contains more than 20 benefits* to help you boost productivity and streamline software deployment and management. It includes 24x7 support, Deployment Planning Services, end-user and technical training and the latest Microsoft software releases. Deployment Planning Services are one of the programme s key benefits. These are structured in-depth consulting engagements delivered by accredited Microsoft Partners or Microsoft Consulting Services (MCS). The goal of Planning Services is to help you plan your implementation of Microsoft software and online services. Using your Planning Services helps to ensure efficient deployment through a collaborative planning process that is built on best practices. Planning Services can also extend the efficiency of your IT staff with expert advice from onsite deployment planning specialists. Microsoft continues to make significant investments to help you with your changing IT, deployment and support needs. New and enhanced Planning Services offer you greater flexibility to plan on-premises, cloud-based or hybrid software deployments. With Software Assurance, you can choose and manage the deployment model of your choice more easily and cost effectively. There are now seven deployment Planning Services uniquely available through the Microsoft Software Assurance programme. A number of these provide guidance on cloud migration and online services, for example if you are thinking about moving to Office 365 or using Azure. Deployment Planning Services engagements vary in length from 1 to 15 days. The length of engagement you choose will depend on how many days you have available via your Software Assurance entitlement and also on what you want to achieve. Your Software Assurance information can be found via the Volume Licensing Services Center at microsoft.com/licensing/servicecenter. If you don t have enough Planning Services days, you may be able to convert your Software Assurance Training Vouchers on a 3-1 basis via the VLSC. Activating and using your Software Assurance benefits is easy and either you can do it or you can allow your partner to manage it for you. By using Deployment Planning Services you can: Assess how Microsoft technology can help lower your costs and enhance your IT infrastructure. Using Deployment Planning Services can help you identify a solid approach for the implementation and management of your software Get expert, personalised service. 3 About Microsoft s Software Assurance Planning Services Desktop Deployment Planning Services (DDPS) DDPS provide customers with the fundamental analysis, planning and technical procedures necessary to deploy Microsoft Office 2010 and Windows 7. This offering helps customers reduce the cost, risk and complexity of deployments through high levels of process and automation. DDPS can also assist organisations evaluating Office 365, addressing considerations and requirements for adopting a cloud-ready desktop environment. Choose from the following engagements, available in multiple lengths of 1, 3, 5, 10 and 15 days. You will be able to choose your engagement length based on your Software Assurance Planning Services availability. There are currently three Desktop Deployment offerings, plus additional guidance for planning your Office 365 deployment: Developer Tools Deployment Planning Services (DTDPS) DTDPS provide rigorous analysis and a process-focused approach to developing a Visual Studio Team Foundation Server or Visual Studio Test Tools deployment plan. They help you take advantage of best practices from Microsoft to help plan your Visual Studio Team Foundation Server and Quality Tools deployment. The resulting plans can help you get started with Team Foundation Server, migrate from Visual SourceSafe or implement a new test management solution. Choose from the following engagements available, in multiple lengths of 3 and 5 days. You will be able to choose your engagement length based on your Software Assurance Planning Services availability. Engagement 1: Planning Services Deployment. Architectural design and strategy to help you plan the production deployment of Office 2010 and Windows 7 in your environment. Engagement 2: Office 365 Guidance Planning. You can now incorporate Office 365 planning into your overall planning engagement. Engagement 3: Proof Of Concept Jumpstart Programme. This involves a partner or MCS-led engagement delivering a sample Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, Windows 7 Enterprise, Microsoft Application Virtualisation (APP-V) and Internet Explorer 9 roll out in a proof of concept (PoC) environment. These are typically 10 day engagements. However there is also a PoC lite version which allows completion in three or five days. Engagement 1: Team Foundation Server Deployment Assessment. This assessment provides a detailed overview of the steps required for a successful deployment of Team Foundation Server day engagement. Engagement 2: Visual SourceSafe Migration Assessment. 4 SharePoint Deployment Planning Services (SDPS) SDPS help organisations develop a customised SharePoint Portal Server deployment plan for their specific environment, and to assess the overall cost for technology deployment for Microsoft SharePoint and/or Microsoft SharePoint Online. A broad range of engagement options cover SharePoint 2010 deployment planning, SharePoint 2010 upgrade planning and SharePoint for internet sites planning. Choose from the following engagements, available in multiple lengths of 1, 3, 5, 10 and 15 days. You will be able to choose your engagement length based on your Software Assurance Planning Services availability. In addition, SharePoint Deployment Planning Service offers Office 365 migration planning guidance as you begin to think about your migration to online services. Lync and Exchange Deployment Planning Services (L&EDPS) L&EDPS can help your organisation evaluate and plan your Microsoft Exchange Server and Microsoft Lync implementation, whether in the cloud or on-premise. L&EDPS can help cover the cost of services and activities that help you understand why and how to implement Microsoft Unified Communications solutions. Choose from the following engagements, available in multiple lengths of 1, 3, 5, 10 and 15 days. You will be able to choose your engagement length based on your Software Assurance Planning Services availability Through the L&EDPS you can plan to deploy Lync 2010 and Lync Online, Exchange and Exchange Online and plan how to deploy in hybrid environments: Engagement 1: SharePoint Deployment Planning. Develop a customised SharePoint 2010 or 2007 deployment plan. This engagement helps you focus on scenarios that are most relevant to your business and needs. Engagement 2: SharePoint 2010 Upgrade Planning. Designed for customers who have already deployed SharePoint 2007 and want to move to SharePoint 2010, this engagement will help you discover the value of upgrading and planning your upgrade early by building a customised migration plan. Engagement 3: SharePoint for Internet Sites Planning. Developed to help you to plan to use Office SharePoint Server to deliver an end-to-end platform. Choose from the following engagements, available in multiple lengths of 3, 5, 10 and 15 days, which will be continually updated as new products are released: SQL Server Deployment Planning Services (SSDPS) SSDPS provide in-depth assessment and planning for deployment with Microsoft consulting partners. Extend your IT staff with on-site deployment planning experts and get started with your migration to SQL Server, SQL Server upgrade or SQL Server BI solution. You can streamline your SQL server deployment and create custom deployment plans based on your unique business needs. Whether you re creating a business intelligence solution, migrating from Oracle or upgrading to SQL Server 2008 R2, SSDPS can help you start realising the benefit of your IT investment today. Choose from the following engagements, each available in 3, 5 or 10 day engagements: Engagement 1: Upgrading Windows Server 2008 R2. 6 How to Activate and Use your Planning Services benefits Converting Unused Training Voucher Days into Planning Services Days With Software Assurance, you get on-site deployment planning help from Microsoft Consulting Services or a qualified Microsoft Partner via a straightforward voucher creation and redemption process: You can easily convert your unused Training Voucher Days and use them to extend your Planning Services engagement(s). Simply use VLSC and follow these three basics steps: Sign into the Volume Licensing Services Centre (VLSC) at microsoft.com/licensing/servicecenter Select Software Assurance from the Top Menu Click on Packaged Services this will take you to the Software Assurance Benefit Details page Click on the Licence ID for which you want to manage Planning Services. This will take you to another summary page Select Packaged Services (packaged services is the old name for Planning Services) Select the voucher type and service level Assign the Packaged Services voucher to a project Manager within your organisation The project manager will receive an message providing information about the benefit and the message will also include a link to the list of Microsoft partners or Microsoft Consulting services that can deliver the service When the consulting partner confirms the planning engagement, the Packaged Services voucher will show as Reserved in VLSC When the planning engagement ends, the consulting partner will work directly with Microsoft to redeem the Planning Services voucher and receive payment. Activate Training Vouchers: 1. Sign into VLSC 2. Select Software Assurance from the top menu 3. Click on Training Vouchers. This will take you to the Software Assurance Benefit Details Page 4. Click on the Licence ID for which you want to manage Training Vouchers. This will take you to another summary page 5. Click on Training Voucher 6. Select Activate. VLSC will report the number of Training Voucher Days available and confirm your Training Voucher Days (Benefits status) as Active. Convert Training Days to Planning Services Days: 1. From the Training Voucher Benefit Detail Page, select Convert Training Days 2. VLSC will prompt you to choose the number of Training Days you wish to convert and confirm the conversion action. Once the Training Days are converted, you may use VLSC to assign Planning Services days to a project manager within your organisation by following the instructions on VLSC.
