3 Architecture & Design This simplified network diagram represents a typical View deployment using SysTrack solutions. Integral to all SysTrack products is our unique, patented DataMine distributed database architecture. DataMine aggregates node-level data unmatched in depth and quality, enabling SysTrack s sophisticated reporting intelligence to deliver an unprecedented level of insight into application usage and resource utilization. SysTrack is architected to handle complex organizations with numerous sites and organizational entities through a multi-level forest design. Built-in authentication, encryption, and compression technologies meet security demands while providing flexibility for complex network implementations. SysTrack is designed for high scalability and minimal performance impact to instrumented environments. DataMine s highly efficient data collection, storage, aggregation, and reporting algorithms minimize network traffic, transparently accommodate user mobility, and enable SysTrack to massively scale to over one million nodes. Easy Deployment and Integration SysTrack is easily deployed and integrated into VMware View environments, with typical installations usually accomplished in less than an hour. The product can be deployed to both persistent and non-persistent desktops and accurately tracks usage across the entire View pools through the use of patented micro-agents. Database setup and configuration for the product is fully automatic for SQL server. It may be deployed in a running environment without reboots and while users are actively using targeted systems. Uninstall is similarly unobtrusive. Figure 1: VMware View Deployment with SysTrack Solutions SysTrack does not require the use of device drivers or kernel components, which makes attainment of change control approvals in large organizations easier. Products with kernel mode components receive much greater scrutiny and require much longer test/approval cycles due to their potential to blue screen a system in the event of a bug. SysTrack does not change the behavior of managed systems, making no changes to current applications, stored application information, or application data streams on the network. 3

4 Validation Result A large, growing insurance company with extensive outsourced offshore development users needed to understand and improve performance. Initially the company deployed physical PCs and gave access through RDP to those desktops. In addition to being incredibly hard to manage and expensive, these desktops were also performing poorly and had a tremendous amount of wasted software licenses. The company initiated, through implementation partner IBM, a SysTrack VMP assessment to determine the needs of the developers and their performance characteristics, image and software plans, and infrastructure requirements for a VMware View solution. As a result they implemented an integrated solution that combines VMware View with the superior management and business intelligence characteristics of SysTrack. Now, offshore development users have secure, reliable, anytime access to the corporate network, while the company benefits from the strong relationship between VMware and Lakeside Software. 5 Design Components This solution leverages four specific Lakeside SysTrack components: SysTrack Virtual Machine Planner SysTrack Virtual Machine Planner (VMP) provides comprehensive pre-virtualization analysis, modeling, and planning support for enterprises and datacenters. SysTrack VMP collects and analyzes millions of data points on systems, applications, and from users to create reports and automate the virtualization process. SysTrack Enterprise and Site Visualizer SysTrack Enterprise Visualizer and SysTrack Site Visualizer provide an enterprise view with drill down to the individual user, system, and application level. In addition to end-user experience reporting, data sets for software packages, applications, system performance, security, people, latency, power, storage, application virtualization, fault management, and others are available. The Enterprise Visualizer provides a CIO perspective, delivering a real-time, C-level picture of what s happening within key organizational groups and across the entire desktop landscape The Site Visualizer provides an IT Manager perspective on specific systems and users, providing more in-depth problem diagnostics SysTrack Analytics SysTrack Analytics provides management and monitoring capabilities for the VMware View environment. SysTrack Analytics reduces problems and downtime through real-time problem detection and alerting. It enforces compliance and security requirements through system lockdown and change management. In addition, it resolves complex user, application, and system issues with detailed forensic analysis. SysTrack Resolve SysTrack Resolve significantly reduces problem time-to-resolution and IT service personnel involvement, enhancing productivity and end-user and IT staff satisfaction. Resolve empowers first-level technicians to diagnose and resolve user service issues themselves. Resolve performs heuristic differential analysis between the problem system and all user systems or any subset to identify and learn where behavior diverges from the norm.
