3 Procurement in the Ontario Government Last year, Ontario did business with more than 50,000 vendors and acquired approximately $4.5 billion in goods, services and construction Examples: food and clothing, IT hardware and software, consulting and engineering services, highway maintenance and environmental clean up Ontario has established more than 80 enterprise Vendor of Record arrangements for common goods and services 3

4 Ontario is embarking on a multi-year plan to modernize its procurement policies and processes in support of Ontario government priorities 4

5 A Sustainable Procurement Strategy will embrace Ontario s environmental, economic and social priorities: Including environmental requirements in procurements where appropriate such as low toxic substance levels in cleaning products and energy efficient hardware Seeking certification that your supply chains do not rely on inappropriate labour practices Using negotiation frameworks to achieve the most appropriate terms and conditions and competitive pricing 5

6 Investment in technology will streamline the procurement process for vendors and government Allowing both electronic bid tendering and bid receipt Development and implementation of smart consumption tools that drive buyers to the right solution 6

7 Removing barriers in our procurement processes will make it easier to do business with Ontario By developing common terms and conditions By ensuring vendors retain their intellectual property rights By establishing Standardized Agreements for vendors who frequently do business with Ontario 7

8 Consultation and outreach will make procurement opportunities easier to find and easier to understand The VOR 3-Year Outlook is available online and provides notice of upcoming enterprise procurements A Roundtable on Sustainable Procurement will be established so vendors and government can regularly discuss emerging trends and issues How to do Business sessions are routinely held across Ontario and special topic webinars will be offered soon 8

9 Supporting innovation through Ontario s buying power Dedicating a portion of Ontario s buying power by providing first time purchases of emerging, innovative, green technology Showcasing and demonstrating the effectiveness of those products to customers around the world 9
