3 Main points Since 2010 Istat has scheduled an ambitious and well-structured multi annual programme of modernisation and advancement of statistical production The programme, named Stat2015, covers a wide time frame and is aimed at renewing production environment, processes and services The programme fully promotes the communication philosophy on the vision of the European statistics production From the stovepipe model towards an integrated production system based on common infrastructures and services Thus the programme key elements are processes and environment integration, the generalisation of solutions, Service oriented architectures (SOA), semantic harmonisation (metadata)

13 Concluding Remarks Pursuing an objective of modernisation requires: Strong and systematic mandate by the top management Active involvement of middle management Investing on human resources Huge investments on new technologies A continuous supporting communication strategy Dialogue among the various competences: statistical, technological, administrative, communication and all the others skills contributing to statistical production
