26 Banner 9 Upgrade Myth busters M Y T H FA C T Upgrading to Banner 9 will be like a re-implementation. The Banner database doesn t change, and therefore your data, business rules and configurations are constant therefore there is little downtime or integration disruptions. Banner 9 requires a massive investment in hardware. Many Banner institutions have the necessary space on their existing hardware. Since Banner 9 shifts away from database processing and now scales horizontally, it can be run on more cost-effective commodity hardware. The sizing guide was revised in Feb with updated guidelines. We will need to re-vamp our skill set / add Groovy Grails skills to our team. Banner 9 s extensibility and configurability are based on familiar Page Builder tools, and won t require in depth Groovy grails or Java skill sets. Upgrading is technically demanding. With Ellucian Solution Manager, upgrades are dramatically simplified a push of a button to implement new versions ELLUCIAN. 26

It automates the Banner upgrade process and provision new environments. I was up and ready in eight minutes on HR. Frankly between HR, General, Finance, Registration, and Student, it has taken us less than an hour total to deploy those.
