3 3 The cornerstones of a successful digital transformation Based on the processes and interactions of the physical world, the four principles of Lequa constitute the foundations of a successful digital transformation. An increasing number of processes and communication are now being transferred to electronic format with up to 37 billion connected things predicted for 2020 (1). With this significant expansion, it is crucial to integrate the principles for interactions used in the physical world to preserve ownership and property rights in this digital transformation. Lequinox platform supports Lequa's principles to provide a horizontal solution for identification and authentication of individuals, organisations and things. 4 4 The Internet expansion The global cloud computing market is estimated to grow from $40.7 billion in 2011 to $241 billion in With the growth of the Internet of Things, big data, mobility and cloud computing, Internet expansion takes us all one step further. INTERNET OF THINGS It is predicted that 4.9 billion "things" will be connected by 2015 (2), and this number is set to rise significantly. By 2020, the predictions for the Internet of Things range from 25 billion to 37 billion intelligent things (1), such as cars, sensors, appliances, smartphones, tablets and more; all connected to the internet. BIG DATA Digital content doubles every 18 months, creating a data deluge. Since 2012, data traffic has been growing at a rate of 40%; from 1.2 zettabytes to an anticipated zettabytes by 2020 (3). It is also important to note that 90% of the world s data has been created in the last two years alone (3). MOBILITY By 2015, there will be 7.1 billion mobile-connected devices (4), including machineto-machine modules. That corresponds approximately to the world s population for that year (7.2 billion) and nearly one mobile device per person. CLOUD COMPUTING The global cloud computing market is in fact, set to skyrocket from $40.7 billion in 2011 to $241 billion in 2020 (5). There is no doubt that the expansion of the digital world brings new services, convenience and cost efficiencies. 5 5 Shifting away from the silos view a horizontal solution The persistent challenges of i.e. security, identity, access, traceability and intellectual property are not isolated and cannot be solved by addressing independent vertical silos. Lequa sets a clear road towards digital transformation by introducing a horizontal solution that runs across mobility, big data, cloud computing and Internet of Things. The challenges related to security, identity and access management, traceability and intellectual property protection, are not isolated issues. 6 6 Lequa's four principles Lequa's four principles are a set of complementary components that combine to establish a system for legal assurance. Lequa's four principles are a set of complementary components that together establish a system for legal assurance in digital processes. Executed by the Lequinox platform, they support individuals and organisations to interconnect and interact within legislative and compliance requirements. Lequa's four principles for digital communication are 1: retain ownership of identity and intellectual property; 2 : protect integrity of processes and confidentiality of information; 3 : access to records and receipts for all interactions; 4 : enable interaction in compliance with policy, standards and legislation.

7 7 Identity, Roles & IoT Principle 1: Retain ownership of identity and intellectual property; Each electronic signature relates to a specific role assigned by an organisation to clarify responsibilities. ROLES Individuals manage their digital identity in roles, i.e. private role and delegated roles that are assigned by an organisation such as compliance officer, CEO, doctor, patient etc. Each electronic signature relates to a specific role to clarify responsibilities. OWNERSHIP Individuals and organisations retain ownership and control over their digital identity, roles and things as well as their intellectual property. ADDITIONAL SECURITY Individuals and organisations have the right to choose their own additional security levels i.e. biometric identification, smart cards, to access service or sign electronically.

8 8 Integrity of Process & Data Principle 2: Secure integrity of processes and confidentiality of information. An advanced electronic signature protects the integrity of both the content and the identity of the signatory. CONFIDENTIALITY To prevent information and processes from being tampered with, intentionally or unintentionally, especially by unauthorized parties, all information and files are locally encrypted before sent or submitted to their destination. ADVANCED DIGITAL SIGNATURE To ensure data and process integrity, Lequinox platform uses advanced electronic signatures that are compliant with European legislation. An advanced electronic signature protects the integrity of both the content and the identity of the signatory. QUALIFIED CERTIFICATES Lequinox platform can also support qualified electronic signatures as described in the EU legislation. The qualified electronic signature is an advanced electronic signature based on a qualified certificate and is created by a secure-signature-creation device such as a smart card. The qualified electronic signature enjoys an even higher standard of reliability according to the EU legislation than the advanced digital signature.

9 9 Traceability & Archiving Principle 3: Access to records and receipts for all interactions With Lequinox platform there is no one central storage of all information. This creates a decentralised and robust system for record keeping. PRIVACY PROTECTION To protect privacy and confidentiality, Lequinox platform supports compliance with the EU legislation on data protection. This helps managing personal information and protecting it from misuse as well as respecting rights of the data owners. In addition, the archived receipts of Lequinox platform contains hash values of identities of participants, time of interaction and electronic signatures, but not the content of the interaction. TRACEABILITY & ARCHIVING Individuals and organisations encrypt all their content locally in accordance with advanced encryption standards. They can securely archive content in a place of their choice.

10 10 Legal Interoperability Principle 4: Interact in compliance with policy, standards and legislation. Lequinox platform creates the opportunity to use public and business services with full legal interoperability. POLICY-BASED TECHNOLOGY Policy-based technology means that managers have full assurance that their IT processes respond on all occasions to business policy and compliance requirements. Lequinox platform is a hands-on tool enabling managers to set interaction and access policies for roles and applications. MULTI-POLICY INTERACTION All connected individuals, organisations, applications and things are able to interconnect also in different policy environments.
