2 Factories of the Future Projects About Factories of the Future Launched in 2009 Public support through European Union s (EU) research funding programme FP7 ( ) 98 projects running (+ 42 upcoming under 2013 call) To date, over 700 organisations across Europe have participated Increase in industrial participation (50-60 %) SME participation > 30% 645 million of EU funding in FP7 ( ) Success: shall continue under Horizon 2020

3 Factories of the Future ICT & Manufacturing ICT is ubiquitous in manufacturing Enabler for renewal of European industry Manufacturing is the largest industry market segment for enterprise IT & offers the largest potential market for cloud computing Europe is already in a strong position to build on leadership in a number of ICT fields, such as: o Industrial robotics & automation (30% global market share) o Embedded digital systems, design software (33 % global market share) o 3D & laser-based manufacturing (25 to 40 % global market share)

5 Factories of the Future FP7 ICT in FoF - Projects To date over 50 ICT projects launched + 11 projects upcoming under 2013 FoF call Total ICT support to FoF in FP7 = 252 million Present Roadmap (under FP7): ICT contributes to all four research sub-domains (including one dedicated to ICT): o Sustainable manufacturing o ICT-enabled intelligent manufacturing o New materials in manufacturing o High-productivity manufacturing

6 Factories of the Future FP7 ICT in FoF - Projects Factories of the Future ICT Project Examples VENIS: Virtual Enterprises by Networked Interoperability Services A new level of interoperability between Large and Small Enterprises ADVENTURE: Adaptive Virtual Enterprise Manufacturing Environment Framework providing the tools to combine factories in a pluggable way to manufacture a particular product IMAGINE: Innovative end-to-end Management of Dynamic Manufacturing Networks Designing & develop a novel, user-friendly networked manufacturing management framework PLANTCockpit: Production logisitics & sustainability cockpit Defining standard interfaces & reference model for integrating the most prominent manufacturing processes
