23 FAQ General 1/2 1. Q: Is SAP Fiori a mobile app? SAP Fiori is a collection of apps that can be used from browsers that support HTML5 from both mobile devices and a desktop. 2. Q. How does this new offering fit with our existing native apps? SAP Fiori is an evolution of our packaged mobile apps strategy from native apps to web apps that run on desktops, tablets and smartphones. SAP will continue to build native apps for use cases that HTML5 can t handle. We will build native apps where offline access is important (eg. field service, sales, EMR, direct store delivery, etc.) or for use cases that call for a sophisticated user experience (eg. mobile analytics, retail execution). Also, in the future, we plan to also make some of the SAP Fiori apps available in a hybrid web container component of SAP Mobile Platform that can benefit from addition capabilities like location awareness, video, etc. In general, you will see native, hybrid and Web apps in our portfolio of packaged apps. 3. Q. How easy will it be to adapt SAP Fiori to my business? Customers can easily adapt and customize SAP Fiori. It is delivered with the UI5 theme editor that allows customers to brand and theme the SAP Fiori scenarios easily without coding. SAP Fiori also allows customers IT to extend the delivered scenarios using SAP standard extensibility tools and best practices. A new extensibility tool (i.e. SAP AppDesigner) for the front-end will be delivered in Q3 to enable customers to extend the UI client more easily SAP AG or an SAP affiliate company. 24 FAQ General 2/2 4. Q. Is SAP Fiori available in the cloud? SAP Fiori is an on-premise solution and with its first release won t be available as a cloud subscription base solution. However, customers should be able to deploy SAP Fiori on their private cloud and/or virtual machines. 5. Q. How is SAP Fiori positioned with SAP NetWeaver Portal, mobile edition? SAP Fiori is complementary to SAP NetWeaver Portal, mobile edition. Even though mobile portal has UWL in it, the UWL would be replaced by SAP Fiori. All SAP Fiori apps can be accessed via SAP NetWeaver Portal, mobile edition. 6. Q. Can the customer restrict which apps are shown to their users if not all implemented? How? Yes, customers can restrict the apps displayed through role assignment in the SAP NW Gateway application. 7. Q. How does SAP Fiori fit within the overall SAP strategy? SAP Fiori fits into SAP s overall Ux strategy of New, Renew and Enable. SAP Fiori is a key component of the renew pillar of SAP s user experience (UX) strategy.
