6 Meaningful Use certification Meaningful Use Stage 2 requirements define deadlines and reporting requirements that are creating a more interoperable healthcare system. The ONC designated Consolidated CDA as the data standard and the Direct Project as the communication method for health data exchange. Starting in 2014, every eligible physician or hospital attesting to Meaningful Use must utilize 2014 Edition EHR certified technology, which includes supporting the Direct protocol. The good news for specialty clinics and hospitals is that the Direct (continued on next page)

7 protocol is a simple, secure method for connecting to the medical community without the need for costly programming. 9 Direct Project Direct Project allows clinics and specialty clinics to easily receive referrals and authorizations and transmit order results to any organization with a Direct address. Corepoint Integration Engine users can directly send and receive Direct Project SMPT messages all without the need for scripting or coding. Patient referrals will be sent and received using Direct protocol, making it easier for your clinic to electronically connect to or interface with regional referral sources.

11 Web Services As patient healthcare data is shared between facilities, privacy and security are of utmost importance. Using web services in Corepoint Integration Engine lends itself well to this type of sharing as a secure method of transport that is flexible, with its XML structure, to incorporate profiles aimed at consent, authentication, auditing, and all the other attributes important to healthcare IT. Secured Web Services updates data in real time based on trigger events, or action points in Corepoint Integration Engine.
