The solutions are rooted in the secure identification of citizens, customers, employees, and systems in both the analogue and digital world. Bundesdruckerei offers its customers a one-stop approach that begins with consultancy, includes design and implementation, and is completed with operation and service. The company captures, manages, and encrypts sensitive data; produces documents and verification devices; develops software for high-security infrastructures; and supplies passport and ID card systems as well as automated border control solutions. Our existing software didn t allow us to integrate key business processes and automate workflows, says Wolfgang Sabelgunst, SAP project manager at Bundesdruckerei. We decided to migrate our entire SAP software landscape from Oracle to the SAP HANA platform and deploy SAP S/4HANA to help different areas of the business work more effectively together and enable more efficient operations.. 3 / 7

4 Establishing a single view of the truth Bundesdruckerei partnered with the SAP Consulting organization to roll out its new SAP software landscape to 2,000 users up from 600 users previously. Over a period of 12 months, the company migrated the SAP ERP and SAP Supplier Relationship Management applications and the SAP ERP Human Capital Management solution to the SAP HANA platform, and deployed the SAP S/4HANA Finance solution. As a result, average compression rate of the production databases was increased by nearly five times, significantly reducing the amount of storage space required. The software integrates administrative and plant logistics data, improving transparency. All production materials can now be tracked from the very start to the end of the manufacturing process, says Sabelgunst. This means that products such as passports and banknotes, which are produced in vast quantities, are fully traceable across the supply chain, right down to their component parts. Integrated controlling and financial management has enabled Bundesdruckerei to automate processes, while improved visibility into the flow of materials results in significant reductions in closing times. Tasks such as cost analysis for passports are now completed in a fraction of the time they took before, without the need for manual input. Bundesdruckerei also deployed the SAP Identity Management component and SAP governance, risk, and compliance solutions. Staff can now complete IT security tasks such as processing authorization and user provisioning requests automatically without the need to fill out paper forms, says Sabelgunst. The software checks each access request against a massive set of highly specific risk and compliance rules within seconds. 4 / 7

It supports 2,000 users and 14 software instances. 6 Increasing efficiency through digitization and integration By leveraging centrally stored data and harnessing the in-memory computing power of the SAP HANA platform, the migration to SAP HANA and deployment of SAP S/4HANA has helped Bundesdruckerei streamline processes and speed up operations. On average, 40% less time is needed to deliver financial reports, speeding up closing processes significantly. The company also made dramatic improvements in profitability analysis with reports now delivered at unprecedented speed. Automation within vendor invoice management has eliminated the need for manual processing, saving time and reducing the risk of errors. Bundesdruckerei can now pay vendors faster, enabling the company to take advantage of early-payment discounts. The production department benefits from 100% transparency across the supply chain. This enables Bundesdruckerei to trace individual components and materials used in everything it manufactures, including up to 1 billion banknotes each year. Within the human capital management department, process automation has freed up staff to spend more face-to-face time supporting company employees. They can also calculate salaries 10 times faster than before, in 41 minutes rather than 420 minutes. IT security processes have also been streamlined. It now only takes three minutes to assign a user role, almost 20 times faster than the paper-based workflow used previously.
