4 Major Projects Preparation of a business case for the establishment of an oil and gas industry training centre in Toowoomba. This project was funded by Origin Energy. Development of a template for capability profiles and presenting at APLNG events on capability profile development for firms targeting the major projects market. DWCS has prepared capability profiles for over 100 companies with existing or potential capacity to supply goods and services into the CSG supply chains. Risk management checklist and templates developed for APLNG to outline the requirements local suppliers need to prequalify and work with major projects. The checklist was launched in May Surveys of 200 procurement managers on major projects in 2001 and 2010 on perceptions of local suppliers and areas for improvement. This produced a map of capability requirements for local suppliers. Results have been used by ICN Qld to develop the Major Project Supply Program evaluation checklist. The project produced an indepth report on major project trends and performance criteria for tier 2 to tier 5 suppliers. Stakeholder and community research for Xstrata North Queensland, Stanwell Corporation and McArthur River Mine. The Count Me In program aimed at encouraging women in the Surat Basin to participate in the workforce and work in jobs in CSG, local businesses and councils. Research for ICN in New Zealand to assess the capabilities of local suppliers and their capacity to win work with major supply chains in the government procurement (including defence), IT, health, engineering and major projects markets. The study mapped the expectations of procurement managers and the barriers and challenges that local suppliers face in accessing these markets. Results are supporting consideration of a Local Industry Policy for New Zealand. Feasibility study for a motorsports complex in Mount Isa. Innovation in Mining Manufacturing Report expert assessment and industry forum to identify opportunities for local manufacturers to work with mining research organisations and mining companies. The focus was on increased use of advanced technologies to deliver solutions and innovation to the mining industry. Consultation with 70 mining and minerals processing projects for the fibre composites industry to identify opportunities for increased use of fibre composites in mining. The project identified over 20 key customer opportunities and an additional 100 decision makers in the mining industry that are now interested in information on fibre composites. Developed a national database of mining, mineral process and infrastructure projects for a client to supply water and wastewater treatment plants to remote sites. Mining industry supply chain initiative in Central Queensland to establish a relationship based approach to working with major projects and advocating for the use of local suppliers. 4

5 Assisting with the establishment of Rail Skills Australasia and the preparation of the 2012 Rail Skills Audit for Queensland. Past work in rail covers a capability audit of the Queensland railway transport industry, mapping of the main value chains in the sector and the action plans for the development of the sector targeting increased revenue. Case study project (25 firms) assessing their experience in the uptake, use of and integration of advanced manufacturing technology. Working with Indigenous Businesses Whanu Binal program for Arrow Energy to build capabilities in Traditional Owner and other Indigenous businesses to secure major project work. Deb Archbold has been working on capability statement development with cycle 1 business in Whanu Binal. She has been able to assist Traditional Owner businesses to better present their capabilities and has helped them to develop a plan of action for engaging with the major projects market. The program is succeeding in linking Indigenous businesses with major project opportunities. Community Plan Indigenous Community in North Queensland - Deborah Wilson Consulting Services has worked with the Indigenous community from Babinda to Mission Beach (Innisfail District) on: - Development of a representative structure for the community. - Preparation of a priority plan for the community. The project ran over about 12 months and involved extensive consultation with the indigenous community and with indigenous organisations in the region. The representative structure and priority plan have been very well received by the community and are now being implemented. Economic Development - The firm worked closely with the Indigenous community in the Innisfail district to ensure that their priorities were incorporated in an economic development plan for the then Johnstone Shire. A separate plan was produced covering priorities for economic development in the Indigenous community. Strategic and Business Planning for Chjowai Housing Cooperative - Deborah Wilson Consulting Services has worked with Chjowai on the development of a business and strategic plan covering Indigenous housing services and the development of social enterprises to support training and employment pathways for Indigenous people in the Innisfail district. Indigenous Business Capability Profiles - Workshop and Individual Assistance - The workshop delivered targeted assistance to Indigenous businesses to assist them to develop high quality capability statements that will improve their opportunities to engage with major supply chains in the LNG sector. Stakeholder Consultation - DWCS regularly meets with and interviews Indigenous stakeholders to seek their feedback in community stakeholder research. This covers research for Xstrata North Queensland, McArthur River Mine and Stanwell Corporation.
