Ability to manage Multi-domain, Multi-technology networks - in one system Ability to add a new network element fast Flexibility of the system (ability to add reports, views etc.) Flexibility of our services: From detection only to full resolution From assurance to fulfillment From legacy to converged networks Manage their own network have a view of their network and services

Motivation for moving to one system Nortel looked for a pre-integrated system with ALL needed functionality Reduce Number of Systems Flexibility and Customization Ability to Manage Multi-Vendor/Multi-Customer Standardization of Administrative and Operational Processes Scalability Consolidated and Normalized Data Storage Automation of Routine Tasks

Operational Environment - 5 years ago Multiple OSS systems delivering operational inefficiencies >1M per year alone on licenses and infrastructure support Metric and Reporting being performed manually for both network and operations Problem Analysis extremely labor intensive requiring elevated skills to perform Multiple NOC s globally all operating independently from one another Unpredictable operating costs

Operational Environment - Today With Netrac in place and running, we have 1 OSS system (TTI s Netrac) acting as the primary tool that will be able to support cross domain networks from various product vendors 1 tool set that is capable of delivering all the required service Managed Network Services has to offer A tool that can be globally distributed A tool that is flexible enough to change with the ever changing times A tool that allows MNS to build a legitimate business continuity strategy Lower capable and predictable operating costs

Managed Network Services Tools - Evolution

Technical Challenges All challenges of a multi-vendor, multi-technology, multi-product implementation exist here But There are more challenges in this implementation

Technical Challenges Multi networks working with private addresses Presenting partitioned information to the Nortel end customer Moving from technology-centric to customer-centric view Migration from 16 systems to 1 Flexibility each customer wants it his way

Network Address Translation (NAT) The challenge: Most of the Nortel customers are working with private addresses (10.10 and or ) All events sent to the same server The solution: Perform NAT at every customer site in order to provide a unique IP address that would be recognized by the system The original IP address is also kept and this is the IP presented to the Nortel end customer

t r B Nw k Nwk NAT Process Managed equipment Managed equipment Static / Dynamic NAT NAT Router NAT Router Static / Dynamic NAT OSS Server

Partitioning The challenge: Nortel Users are not authorized to see the networks of ALL customers Customer themselves are authorized to see their own networks only The solution: Partition the underlying inventory

Partitioning Customer A Customer B -Alarms - Performance -Service - Provisioning -Alarms - Performance -Service - Provisioning User User

Partitioning the basis for service management First layer of partitioning is per service Monitoring is per service Next layer is per customer SLAs per service per customer Customers want a view into their own network In the near future customers may initiate an automatic provisioning process

System flexibility The challenge: Every Service Provider wants full flexibility Nortel needed more! The solution: TTI s solution is extremely flexible and easily adaptable Mediation layer normalizes the information other products must not be changed Common methodology to all domains Eliminates need for extensive user training Nortel personnel can define new libraries fast, on their own

Migration from 16 systems to 1 The Challenge: Zero down-time Smooth migration The Solution: Well-defined migration procedures Excellent cooperation between the Nortel and TTI professionals tightly aligned partnership with joint objectives

The Next Generation NOC The Next Generation NOC The Next Generation NOC Fluent NOC/Easy to Use Single GUI Pre-integrated End to End view of whole network Service Oriented/Customer Centric NOC Commit to high QoS SLAs Technology - Free NOC Fast to implement Manage Converged networks Flexible Multi everything
