1. Preface POS solution has been mainly applied in retail industry. This document was written for Hikvision Partners, Customers as well as internal sales and pre-sales. It includes Hikvision s consideration on a complete POS solution. In different practical scenarios suitable different combinations are possible to realize the most suitable solution for the end customer. Let s have look at some basic concepts in this domain. What is POS? POS (point of sale) refers to the time and place where a retail transaction is completed. It is the point at which a customer makes a payment to the salesperson/cashier in exchange for goods or service. Most of time the salesperson/cashier provides a receipt for the customer at POS. The Constitution of POS system Different and customized hardware and software are mostly deployed in various situations in the retail industry. This is cause by particular requirement from the industry or the retailers themselves. Retailers may utilize printer, scanners, electronic cash registers, POS terminals, touch screens and a variety of other available utilities. Q: Where is POS solution overall deployed. Besides retail industry, POS solution is also widely deployed in catering industry, Medial industry (e.g. hospital), warehouse etc. Only take a glance of POS terminal market, in 2012, in total 28 billion USD was spent on POS terminal market. It s foreseen that in 2020 this market volume will double size. Fig.1 Global POS terminals market by product,

What is POS text overlay? The information of transaction including the key information of the transactions such time and device source can be overlaid on the previewed image and be recorded into the video records as shown in Fig.2. Fig.2 POS text overlay Why do we need POS text overlay? POS text overlay function make it possible to integrate video surveillance system into the central management system. This ease the management dramatically. The video which is recorded with overlaid text provides more details of each transaction and footage searching becomes so easy based on this information for the end user. This technology is extreme important for solving disputed problems between clients and preventing inside jobs.

2. Solution 2.1 System Structure Fig.3 System structure of the POS application POS +DVR mode Introduction Currently there are two ways to DVR with POS terminals, via network or via serial port. For example: The DVR initiates the connection to the POS server for the POS data communications between POS server camera. Fig.4 Basic network connection with camera

How to realize the connection is mainly based on the type of POS machine. It s very important that what type of POS machine is adopted. The following is POS TVI sever DVR with model introduction TVI DVR Configuration We need to configure the DVR firstly. 1. Login the DVR on the local DVR page, select system configuration -> POS : Fig.5 POS configuration page 2. Select a POS channel, if your POS camera is added by an analog camera in the DVR, please choose the Ax channel, if your POS camera is added by a digital camera, you need to choose the Dx channel. The TVI DVR can both support the analog channel and IP channel.

Fig.6 Overlay channel configuration page 3. Select a connection type, if the connection type is RS-232, you also need to configure the RS-232 parameters; then, select the overlay mode, Font size, overlay time(s), font color in this page and so on. Fig.7 POS settings 4. After setting, the POS overlay you set will display to the live view local page.

Fig.8 POS overlay live view 5. Record configuration: Enable the POS schedule in the disk. And click edit to check the day is POS record. Fig.9 POS local record configuration1

Fig.10 POS local record configuration2 6. Playback the POS channel in the local DVR playback page. The POS record bar is red as an event record. Please refer to the below picture: Main POS parameter introduction; Fig.11 POS Playback POS Protocol: At present, there are three kinds of compatible protocols: Universal Protocol, EPSON, AVE. POS Settings: Overlay Channel: If M means analog cameras, N means digital cameras, so there will

show most half of M+N POS cameras. Select the correct channel, you can overlay the information on it.. Connection ways: Network connection (TCP, UDP, multicast, Sniff) Serial Port connection (RS-232) USB connection (USB to 232) Main POS Configuration tips: POS only overlay to the main stream. All the streams are stored in the disk, there has a control switch when in playback, we can control show the overlay or not. The overlay is not in the stream Network POS+ DVR For example: We based on TCP connection type, DVR will initialize the connection between camera and POS terminal for POS data transmission. The topology as shown in Fig.12Fig.12. Fig.12 Network POS with DVR topology RS-232 POS (Serial Port) + DVR To RS-232 POS, there are three connection ways. 1) POS machine connect to the DVR, the topology usually like this below:

Fig.13 RS-323 POS with DVR topology1 2) Also, we usually will see the IO server in this mode. The POS machine connect to the IO server, the IO server turn 232 signals into network signals, the topology usually like this below: Fig.14 RS-323 POS with DVR topology2 3) Use RS-232 to USB convertor, there is an extra RS-232 hardware with the USB to connect to the DVR, the port in convertor and POS are one to one correspondence, POS1 should be connected to port1 of convertor. The topology like this below:

For example, we add the POS to the DVR, then we use the following topology:

Firstly, we need to keep TVI DVR with cameras online; then, we can add the device in the 4200, do the configuration in the 4200 configuration page. Fig.17 ivms 4200 maintenance management page 2. Select the POS DVR, click to open the device remote configuration page, click the POS tab to set the parameters.
