6 Overview What is the BBP? The Background Business Processor is an application that allows for the automation of processes that would otherwise require manual execution.

12 BBP Terminology Jobs A job is a single task that the BBP will run. For example printing a memorized report or billing encounters. Package A package is a collection of one or more jobs that will run in succession of each other on the same schedule. Server As far as the BBP is concerned, a server is any computer that is used to execute scheduled packages. Engine Service A program that runs in the background on a server. It regularly queries the NextGen Database to determine if there are any packages scheduled to run on the server.

13 Server/Hardware Requirements The BBP server must be built out to meet the minimum requirements to run all NextGen applications. The BBP server is a fat client running its own instance of EPM, EHR, or ICS. A server can be File Server Workstation Virtual Machine
