1 1. PROJECT TICE PREQUALIFICATION DOCUMENTS FOR SUBCONTRACTORS FOR York Hall Biology/Chemistry Renovation UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SAN DIEGO a) BNBuilders, Inc. (BNB) intends to award lump sum contracts for the below listed trades by competitive bidding for BNB Project # TBD/ UCSD Project No. 4766/A4L-374/ at UCSD. 2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF WORK a) Interior renovation of approximately 12,500 square feet of existing biology and chemistry lab spaces including new casework/fumehoods, MEP Systems, and associated interior finishes. Other improvements include ADA upgrades of parking, restrooms, water fountains, and safety equipment throughout the space. The project will be scheduled to coincide with the summer break between June 1 st and September 1 st with the exception of some small spaces that will be available earlier. b) The project will be constructed by Subcontractors each working under a separate contract with BNBuilders, Inc. (CM/Contractor). These contracts will be based on the Bid Packages listed below. c) Current estimated total construction cost: $3,750,000. d) The current anticipated estimated amounts for the scopes of work and required California contractor license classifications are are as follows: Bid Package # Trade License Estimated Construction Value Demolition C21 $150, Concrete Paving CB $75, Misc. CONSTRUCTION SERVICES a) The scope of work includes but is not limited to scheduling, coordination of work, contractor management, labor, materials, and equipment necessary for the Bid Packages listed in Section 2. The construction scope also includes coordination, fabrication, and installation of work, quality control, submittal processing, RFI processing, cost control, code compliance, safety, change order management, and closeout. The subcontracts will be held by BNB. 4. PREQUALIFICATION PROCESS a) Prequalification documents are available at the following locations: The office of BNB located at 9255 Towne Centre Drive, Suite 800, San Diego, CA UCSD Website ( b) The prequalification requires an accurate completion and submission of a written questionnaire response by all interested subcontractors. These responses will be evaluated by BNB and UCSD and will establish the subcontractor s prequalification status to submit a lump sum bid for the project. c) Any questions regarding the s must be submitted in writing to 2 P age

3 Ross Brown with BNB via at or fax to (858) by 2:00 PM, March 11 th, Questions received after the above-noted deadline may be answered at the discretion of UCSD and BNB. d) Prospective bidders shall submit one (1) original completed Prequalification Questionnaire and required attachments in a sealed envelope to Ross Brown at the BNB office located at 9255 Towne Centre Drive, Suite 800, San Diego, CA and one (1) completed Prequalification package via to Ross Brown at ross.brown@bnbuilders.com. All prequalification questionnaires submitted must be received by BNB on or before 2:00 pm on Monday, March 17th, e) The sealed envelope shall be labeled to include the following information: 1) Project name, 2) Subcontractors Name, and 3) The bid package number(s) associated with the work for which your company is requesting prequalification to perform. f) No Prequalification Questionnaires will be accepted after the due date and time stated above. However, UCSD and BNB reserve the right to request, to receive, and to evaluate supplemental information after the above time and date at their sole discretion. g) Those subcontractors who have submitted the Prequalification Questionnaire will be notified of the prequalification approval or denial via . The approved subcontractors will be invited to bid in a competitive bid for the bid packages for which they were prequalified. h) BNBuilders intends to bid on the following bid packages: Misc. Carpentry Metal Stud Framing and Drywall Fumehoods and Casework Note: The University will receive and evaluate submittals on these three prequalification packages. 4 Prequalification of prospective subcontractors will be determined by the following: 1. Declaration: Properly signed by the authorized person. 2. Firm has been in business for at least five (5) years. 3. License: Possession of required California Contractor s License/classification in good standing at the date and time of the prequalification questionnaire submittal. 4. Financial Information 5. Insurance Information 6. Performance & Claims History 7. Safety Questionnaire 8. Prevailing Wage Compliance Record 9. Small Business Classifications 10. Acknowledgment of BNB Master Agreement Any prospective subcontractor found to be not prequalified as a result of the subcontractor s answers to the Prequalification Questionnaire will receive written response from BNB explaining the decision. If the subcontractor can refute some of the facts upon which the decision was based, the subcontractor may appeal the decision. The appeal must be submitted in writing to BNB within three (3) working days of receipt of notification of non-prequalification and shall state the basis of the appeal and may request a review by BNB. The decision resulting from such review will be final and not appealable within The University of California. UCSD reserves the right to reject any or all responses to prequalification questionnaires and any or all bids and to waive non-material irregularities in any response or bid received. Information submitted by the subcontractor shall not be open to public inspection to the extent that information is exempt from disclosure under the California Public Records Act (Chapter 3.5 (commencing with Section 6250) of Division 7 of the Title of the Government Code). 6. LUMP SUM SELECTION PROCEDURES When the Bid Set Documents for this project become available, prequalified subcontractors will be issued a complete set of these documents. The successful subcontractor will be selected on the basis of the lowest responsive lump sum bid to UCSD and BNB. 7. CONTRACT PROCEDURES Once the successful subcontractor has been selected, the subcontractor will be authorized by UCSD and BNB to begin the Construction Services scope of work. Reference the attached standard BNB Master Agreement and Insurance requirements. 4 P age
