6 Catalysts for Change Why do we need to Step Up the Game in well surface location and wellbore positioning data management? Complexity of dense pad drilling, SAGD well pairs and horizontal wells This is the new normal as Canada plans to capitalize on the Oil Sands and Shale plays! Critical need for 3D well positioning accuracy for reservoir optimization and collision avoidance Multi-disciplinary demands for real-time data, data integration, data visualization and analytics Changes in regulatory, health, safety & environmental requirements Economic downturn creating demand to do more with less Copyright 2015 Noah Consulting LLC. 15 Discussion Period Let s Talk about Managing Well Location Data Are you willing to share your well location data related challenges, focus areas for 2015 or previous successes? For example: Do your end users have confidence in the data they use to make decisions? What are the key pain points if not? Is your well location data consistent between applications? Do you have specific people managing your well location data using consistent processes and technology? Does your company have improvement areas targeted for 2015 that you can share with the audience? Are you experiencing funding and resourcing challenges due to the downturn? 17 Relative Dependencies to Consider for Integrating Well Data What data are you integrating? Well to well Well to its own related planned, measured and interpreted data Well to surrounding surface and subsurface data types In all cases, the following questions should come to mind: Is the well uniquely identified in source and consuming systems? Are all the required well components uniquely identified? Is it understood which component of a well the data ties to? What is the source of the data? Is it measured or derived? Have the same locational reference datums and grids, map projections, units of measure been used? What were the coordinate transformation methods if not? Were there rig or surface changes during the drilling phase? Different reference data for subsequent well work after as-built? Copyright 2015 Noah Consulting LLC. All Rights Reserved. Page 17

18 Standard Business and Data Lifecycles for Wells and the Groups Involved Data & business lifecycles are independent, but inter-related Business decisions are dependent on data from previous phases within the business lifecycle As the data matures & improves through its data lifecycle, then business decisions mature & improve as well Data from early in both the business & data lifecycle is used throughout time O&G Operators, Regulators, Service Companies, Data Vendors, Software Providers, All Industry Producing Disposing Business Lifecycle Completing Planning Use Drilling Archive Data Lifecycle Process Plan Acquire O&G Operators with specific internal or external groups acquiring data and multiple internal or external groups doing the rest of the data lifecycle tasks Copyright 2015 Noah Consulting LLC. 19 Well Data Management Best Practices Building dedicated data management teams and data governance organizations Implementing data quality management and associated metrics Establishing MDM capabilities and leveraging master data repositories built from authoritative sources Building and leveraging geomatics and spatial data management expertise Formalizing operators service company relationships with data in mind Developing strong partnerships with regulators, data vendors, service and software providers Copyright 2015 Noah Consulting LLC.
