Each chapter has its own style, leadership, and schedule to meet the local members needs and provide a relevant forum so its up to you the members to decide. In South Africa we have a sister Usergroup in Johannesburg

Is there already a local Chapter? How many attendees will it take to make a new user group worthwhile? Will we be able to get some help from other local Azure professionals? Azure is broad how will be handle the diversity of technology and people? If you want to kill a user group, allow overrun of advertising and self promotion! If you want to kill a user group. Stop all sponsorship. Regular rhythm is important. Microsoft and its people and sponsorship are here to support the user group Lourens, Ed and I are happy to be part of the organizing committee but need to be matched with at least equal number of non-microsoft members.

Microsoft makes its facilities available for User Groups such as this? Microsoft co-ordinates around a community night (second Tuesday of the month)? Microsoft Cape Town has limited venue space so we need to factor that in. Cape Town covers a broad geographic area, what about other venues? What time works best for everyone? How often do we want to get together in person? Are the opportunities to get together online, webcast etc? Recommendations that don t fit with the above: Check your local meeting schedule to avoid conflicts with other meetings Avoid the same evening, but also the same week if at all possible Avoid competing cultural events

Get speakers. Line up your first few speakers and topics. Lets plan 3 months ahead. As you start to publicize the group, you will want your prospective attendees, sponsors, and future speakers to see that your new group is in it for the long haul. Get sponsors. If you have to pay for meeting space, or if you want to serve free refreshments, you will need one or more sponsors. Microsoft will cover this if we fit in.

Meetup: Facebook: Create a charter document? Build out our organizing team?
