We have learned many things from this topic which will help us in future to conduct activities as an executive of a digital firm. There were some obstacles we have faced at the time of collecting data about our topic. But we have overcome all the obstacles by the endeavor effort by each member of our group and tried our best to give an overview of our topic. 6 First of all we would like to thank the Almighty for giving us the strength, and the aptitude to complete this report within due time. We are deeply indebted to our course teacher, mentor, and counselor, Md. Monzur Morshed Bhuiya for assigning us such an interesting topic named El-Alamein for printing & packaging goes digital. We also express the depth of my appreciation to our honorable course teacher for his suggestion and guidelines, which helped us in completing this Case Study.

7 El-Alamein a renowned company of printing & Packaging has gone digital in After getting digital, the company have established several infrastructural components such as Computer network & backup system, Security system, Time & attendance system, Enterprise Resource Planning (EPR) system & Security policy. After implementing all this components the working hours has saved a lot. They implement Oracle E-Business Suit to meet the business requirement. Moreover it started dealing in online which gives them a path breaking success. They have faced problem but they have strengthened & reduce their investment risk. As a result they achieve 500 percent return on investment. Here we have shown that how IT/IS value added the firm by increasing productivity, improving services, increasing effectiveness & efficiency, reducing investment risk, strengthened process integration and so on. In this present day it is almost impossible to think about a company without having an IT department. It helps to determine new goals for the firm to compete in the industry by providing various modern features. In another word we can say that after getting digital a company can easily trade compare to previous resulting a great success with less riskiness.

9 Chapter- 01 Introduction A case study is a research method common in social science. It is based on an in-depth investigation of a single individual, group, or event. Case studies may be descriptive or explanatory. In this case study we tried to show that how a firm is digitally emerged. This case study contains some key points such as importance of IS in organization, necessity of IT department in the firm, & specialists and importance of modern software to cope with competitive business market. It also reveals that how a digital enable firm goes a far away whereas under developed firm faces a great problem in the industry. Rationale of the study The case study is assigned by our course teacher Md. Monzur Morshed Bhuiya as a part of our Management Information System course. The topic of our case study is El- Alamein for printing & packaging goes digital. By conducting this study we can enhance our knowledge and skill to apply various research methods in professional life on higher educational life. The report has given us a chance to raise our quality in developing research instrument and its applications. By doing so, we can boost our acceptability in job market and develop our real life knowledge. Objective of the Case Study Primary objective To cope with the present competitive business world, how efficient, effective & fruitful the digital information management system is. Secondary objective: The case study has the following objectives: To know the benefits of digital information system. To know how information system reducing the cost. 10 Scope There were huge scopes to work in the area of this Case Study. Considering the dead line, and exposure of the paper has been wide-ranging. The study El-Alamein for printing & packaging goes digital has covered overall scenario of printing & Packaging Industries. It has shown the growth of the company after getting digital. We have a chance to work on the information system used in modern business world. By doing the assignment, we are able to know that the importance of digital information system to cope with the modern business world. In the case study we have showed how information system works in the organization & how it changes the process of organization. Methodology We have used the concept of the course, information of the case study. Sources of Data Here the secondary sources of information were used. The secondary sources are: Books. Website. Limitations While conducting the report on El-Alamein for printing & packaging goes digital, some limitations were yet present there: Because of time shortage many related area can t be focused in depth. Having lack of knowledge of using Oracle, Teradata, ERP we couldn t provide details. Recent data and information on different activities was unavailable.

11 Chapter- 02 Introduction Our Case study is based on How a Firm Becomes a Digital Firm. This case is related to the chapter Global E-Business: How Business Use information System. From the Case Study we can understand the importance of digital firm & applications of modern digital systems in any firm. Case Brief Our case study is based on El-Alamein Co. of Middle East (Egypt) which has founded in El-Alamein is a company which relies on Printing & packaging industry. Its Head- Quarters located in Alexandria, it occupies an area of 40,000 square meters & employs more than 700 employees. It has obtained international quality certificates including: ISO 9001; ISO 14001; ISO OHSAS & BRC/IOP. El-Alamein is the approved supplier to the biggest international companies in the fast food industry. The company produces paper cups, ice-cream packages, eight-cornered carrion boxes, potatoes boxes, wrapping paper for fast food, multi-layered paper bags, etc. The co. decided to go digital from July 2006 & company establish several infrastructural components such as computer network, a backup system & security policy. It has established its own informative web site & linked to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) & Oracle E-Business Suite was chosen as the best ERP to meet the company s requirements.

12 Relationship with Management Information System (MIS) concept El Alamein is practicing the modern methods of MIS. 1. In current situation MIS thought us how to manage information with computer and online or IT. To cope with global E- Business El Alamein has formed totally online and computer based information system which is making them faster in competitive world. 2. MIS is all about networking, servers, reliable information infrastructure, storage of information, enhancing informative communication etc. The required organization is performing all this activities as per the structure of MIS. 3. MIS indicates the strategic way to run the business such as El- Alamein is doing. They do take their orders through online by which they gain a lion s share of packaging business around the world. 4. MIS develop a relationship with hardware and software through specialists such as programmers, system analysts, project leaders, and information system managers etc who play a vital role to achieve success so as to El Alamein does. 5. El Alamein is too much successful because they are performing the technical approach suggested by MIS. 6. El Alamein reduced investment risk, strengthened process integration, improved productivity and enhanced the efficiency using MIS concept.

Solution of Question-2 a) Ans: The risks that are facing El-Alamein in implementing the ERP system are given below- a) The project has experienced some difficulties because the format are being the resistance to change from heads of department b) Employee turnover cost are increasing c) It is new concept for the employees. So, it wasn t easy for the company to cope up with it. d) Lack of information because only management level employees were involved into the system to make a decision, analyze & implementation. e) Investment in money b) Ans: The evaluation is positively evaluated taken from their side to mitigate those risk factors.

16 Solution of Question-6 Ans: Yes. Both are delivering benefits to El-Alamein. These are giving below- a) Teradata provides a common data model for all data of interest regardless of the data's source. b) It makes it easier to report and analyze information than it would be if multiple data models were used to retrieve information such as sales invoices, order receipts, general ledger charges, etc. c) This greatly simplifies reporting and analysis. d) The information in the Teradata can be stored safely for extended periods of time. e) Data warehouses can work in conjunction with and, hence, enhance the value of operational business applications, notably customer relationship management (CRM) systems. f) ERP integrates internal and external management information across an entire organization, g) It is embracing finance/accounting, manufacturing, sales and service, CRM, etc. h) ERP systems automate this activity with an integrated software application. i) It facilitates the flow of information between all business functions inside the boundaries of the organization and manages the connections to outside stakeholders.

The major findings of the overall study are discussed below: Importance of information system. How effective IT investment to build strategic relationship with multinational companies. How to do online business. How much IT department increase the valuation of the company. To know about the Computer network & backup system, Security system, Time & attendance system, Enterprise Resource Planning (EPR) system Know about Oracle Financials, Oracle E-Business, Inventory Management System, Order Management & procurement, HR Module sales & marketing How effective the information system to avoid investment risk How effective the digital management information system to improve the productivity & enhance the efficiency of inventory handling.

18 Conclusion El-Alamein has witnessed robust growth of profit over 500 percent by investing in IT department. In recent years, this proved that without digital information management system it is almost impractical to think of doing global business successfully. By studying the case, we can say that with the proper utilization of digital management system any organization can leave their footprints in the queue of success like El-Alamein.
