3 Introduction Strategic planning is vital in planning for the future of organizations Planning involves a process in which present conditions are documented and goals for the future are set in context with internal and external influences Knowing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats illuminates knowledge that can guide strategic plans

5 SWOT Definition SWOT is acronym for Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats Developed by Stanley Humphrey in 1960s at Stanford University Emerged from Soft Analysis What is good in the present is Satisfactory, good in the future is an Opportunity; bad in the present is a Fault and bad in the future is a Threat.

6 Steps In SWOT Analysis 1. Collect and evaluate key data 2. Sort data into 4 categories 3. Develop SWOT matrix into all business alternatives in organization 4. Use SWOT to make decisions for strategic plan
