3 remotely monitor, collect, and filter availability and utilization thresholds down to the device level. RMA is designed to perform software distribution, configuration management, proactive monitoring, diagnostics, remote operations, asset management, and event management, in the store, consistent with retailers' enterprise operational needs. All this can result in lower total cost of ownership and a higher return on investment driven by higher utilization of self checkout. The IBM CHEC V6 software solution offers manageability, utilizing new systems management tools and functions of the IBM Remote Management Agent, which has been integrated into the solution. w retailers can use IBM Director to centrally manage their systems which helps them achieve greater system up-time for more throughput. Latest RMA enhancements Allows rapid end-to-end integration, as part of Store Integration Framework, from enterprise to stores and to the device level Enables complete systems management capabilities in the store to reduce store system downtime Helps lower total cost of ownership through proactive management of store systems Is provided as part of IBM's full line of POS hardware, self checkout, kiosks, printers, and devices Captures events based upon exception criteria for tender and transaction errors, item learning, system availability, database errors, and peripheral events Enables software downloads for lane software updates and SI software Provides lane information for the mobile terminal server Performs scheduled database maintenance tasks IBM Director is a comprehensive systems manager designed for use across the full IBM Systems family. An integrated, easy-to-use suite of tools, IBM Director provides clients with flexible systems-management abilities to help maximize system availability and lower IT costs. With IBM Director, IT administrators can view and track the hardware configuration of remote systems and monitor the component performance of processors, disks, and memory. The solution requires IBM Director for enterprise management. The customer or integrator must separately order IBM Director to fully utilize the Remote Management Agent functions. For more information on IBM Director, refer to For Business Partners and retailers, IBM CHEC now provides a powerful Toolkit to simplify the development and support of customer-specific enhancements. w customer-specific code can be developed remotely and then added at the customer site. The following product components are included and supported as part of the redesigned self checkout lane and Back-Office Systems Server (BOSS) software suite: IBM CHEC Back-Office Application includes the following: IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) IBM DB2 Express Edition IBM Remote Management Agent (RMA) IBM CHEC Client Application includes the following: IBM DB2 Personal Edition (DB2 PE) IBM Remote Management Agent (RMA) JavaPOS drivers Standalone diagnostics Software Developer Toolkit and fully functional reference solution for ACE V6 IBM Store Integrator Graphical User Interface (SI GUI) and POS Business Component (POSBC) The new IBM CHEC software is different from previous self checkout solutions in five IBM Asia Pacific Announcement AP IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 3

4 fundamental ways: 1. Open POS integration 2. Improved user interface extensibility 3. More powerful and flexible approach for configuration, enhancements, and extensions 4. New systems management tools (integrated versus new) 5. Integrated platform security The specific advantages and value in each of these areas are described below. 1. Open POS integration Provides a clearly defined, high-level interface layer that isolates the communications between server and self checkout from the lane's or POS' internal logic. This helps enable quicker integrations, reduced development cycles, and faster delivery of changes. Enables a POS interface architecture known as POS Business Components (POSBC), which provides a common vehicle for multiple store applications (self checkout, kiosk, wireless devices, fuel, and so on) to access the POS business logic. This common architecture helps accelerate deployment of new applications in the store. Provides one common way to integrate to and better manage POS functions. As more solutions providers and ARTS adopt an industry standard such as POSBC, this shortens the time and reduces costs for custom integrations of new store solutions. 2. Improved user interface extensibility The user interface is built on the IBM Store Integrator Graphical User Interface (GUI), an open standard tool, allowing the retailer (or others) to customize the user interface through a set of programming and configuration techniques. A highly extensible user interface makes it possible to add additional functionality to the self checkout application. Retailers are no longer dependent on one source (the self checkout vendor) for user interface or graphics and audio changes; thus providing IBM Business Partners with an opportunity to add significant value to their customers' self checkout solution. This also enables retailers to differentiate their user interface and customer experience more easily to create competitive advantage. The Store Integrator GUI enables retailers to use a common display and customization component in the self checkout lanes and the regular lanes, resulting in the same look and feel for both. The open user interface also enables a retailer to build a more common look and feel across multi-channel customer touch points (for example, Web kiosk, self checkout). This open user interface technology provides the foundation for future enhancements that will enable an adaptive user interface to adjust to individual shoppers' needs and desires (such as expert versus novice users and personal preferences based on loyalty card or time of day). 3. More powerful and flexible approach for configuration, enhancements, and extensions The new CHEC V6 is based on the latest systems development methodologies, standards, and tools including Web technologies, Java, and XML. This provides a base for future development. The new CHEC V6 software is designed with an architecture that provides a base product asset plus extensions. This allows retailers, third parties, systems integrators, and others to develop enhancements and customizations for particular retailers, leveraging a broader development community to work on self checkout. By separating unique customer customizations from the base product asset, it enables IBM to make changes and enhancements for common features and requirements to the base product asset more quickly; this creates a more productive development environment for IBM to deliver the future product roadmap. The technical architecture is designed to enable the introduction of new hardware technologies and platforms more easily, such as new cash devices, Biometrics (fingerprint security), or RFID (Radio-Frequency Identification). Use of industry proven components, such as DB2, Java, WAS, and XML, results in the ability to leverage standard function, skills, and scalability; for example, the use of data replication features in DB2 to maintain data across the system or the ability to use a IBM Asia Pacific Announcement AP IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation 4

5 common Web server solution for enterprise-level integration and browser-based access. 4. New systems management tools Enable better monitoring and management of unique self checkout devices such as bill and coin devices (acceptors and dispensers), scanner scales, and printers. This allows in-store and remote problem diagnosis, and provides the basis for improved performance and availability of all self checkout devices. Provide new retail-specific management agents for self checkout (and other store-level devices). When integrated with an enterprise systems management tool, these agents provide enterprise-level open systems management capability for problem management, change management, configuration management, and software distribution. Leverage a variety of industry standard systems management tools where available to provide advanced management functionality at the store, region, or corporate level (for example, IBM Director, Tivoli or other open systems management tools). Provide the ability to monitor errors, proactively supply alerts to corporate or in-store personnel, and produce enterprise-level data and trends on certain problems. This helps enable retailers and maintenance providers to manage self checkout to higher availability levels. 5. Integrated platform security The self checkout lanes now support a layered security environment for user mode (customer use) and a system administrator mode. When the self checkout is available for customer use, it runs in a secure environment and enables the retailer to implement processes which can meet the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards. On the BOSS, the system supports integrated user security validation with the underlying operating system. Support applications all run as secure services without requiring a user to be logged in. IBM CHEC allows IBM and IBM Business Partners to work closely with customers to customize the software solution based on specific requirements, without impact to the base software code. Migration Existing self checkout customers with prior generations of IBM self checkout hardware and software may be interested in the functionality and enhancements provided in CHEC. Each customer's implementation is deemed unique (in the form of POS applications, back office applications, peripherals, or customized enhancements); while the software architecture reuses a portion of the prior self checkout code base, a direct migration path may not be available. Should a customer consider moving to this new version of software, contact your IBM sales representative for additional information.
