1 IBM United States Announcement , dated October 2, 2007 Addition of Cristie Bare Machine Recovery for virtual machines and additional platform-specific feature numbers IBM Global Financing... 2 Prices...2 Technical information...2 Ordering information...3 Terms and conditions... 4 Prices...5 IBM Global Financing... 5 At a glance Benefits of the CBMR for virtual machines includes support for: Dissimilar system migration from physical to virtual (P2V), virtual to physical (V2P), and virtual to virtual (V2V) on an Intel platform Dissimilar hardware, allowing recovery to different server models or brands Automatic hardware and driver detection Microsoft Windows 2000, 2003, and XP on x86 and x64 platforms Linux on x86 and x64 platforms Microsoft Windows Dynamic Volumes to allow manual intervention if required GUI and command line interfaces Scheduling via Windows, Linux, Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM), or own task scheduler Integration with TSM event logging Overview Cristie Bare Machine Recovery (CBMR) for virtual machines, offered as a bundle of four virtual licenses, provides fast, reliable, automated backup and recovery in a "virtual" environment. This powerful, easy-to-use software backs up the operating system and hard disk configuration of critical servers. This enables rapid recovery to an identical state following damage to or failure of the physical hardware or a corruption of the operating system. CBMR may be used on both physical and virtual machines. Virtualization can provide many advantages and CBMR can support these operations. For example virtual machines may be used to consolidate old servers running earlier software onto new hardware. CBMR can be used to migrate from the old hardware to the new virtual machine. To ensure business continuity, virtual servers need protecting in just the same way as physical ones. Should software corruption arise, CBMR can be used to recover the original operating system in a virtual environment.
