3 1. Introduction SmartPlant Spoolgen is a new version of SPOOLGEN, Intergraph s established and extremely popular pipe fabrication software. SmartPlant Spoolgen provides all of the benefits of its predecessor, as well as several new improvements to existing functionality, making it a more productive and superior tool. Built on ISOGEN, SmartPlant Spoolgen is a highly configurable, data-centric application that enables fabricators to produce accurate, data-rich engineering drawings and reports to meet their company standards and work practices. Without altering the original pipe design, SmartPlant Spoolgen allows fabricators to add manufacturing and construction detail to design isometrics (IDF/PCFs) delivered electronically by EPCs, before automatically generating all necessary fabrication spool drawings and reports, without the need for redrafting or re-entry of materials data. This delivers the benefits of reduced fabrication project schedules and elimination of costly rework associated with redrafting and manual data transcription errors. SmartPlant Enterprise-Style User Interface Acknowledged as the leading tool for piping fabrication in the market, SmartPlant Spoolgen is already offered as part of Intergraph s SmartPlant Enterprise engineering software solution. Building on SPOOLGEN s position, but with a familiar SmartPlant - style user interface, and importantly, integration with SmartPlant Foundation and other SmartPlant products SmartPlant Spoolgen provides a familiar user-interface experience that Intergraph users will find makes it easy to learn and adopt as the replacement for SPOOLGEN. The new interface has been improved to be consistent with Intergraph s SmartPlant look and feel and general user interface standards, making it a perfect fit within the SmartPlant product family. 7 4. New SmartPlant Symbol Editor Creates User-Defined Symbol Shapes Included with SmartPlant Spoolgen is a completely new version of Symbol Editor, renamed SmartPlant Symbol Editor. SmartPlant Symbol Editor supports the creation of user-defined ISOGEN symbol shapes (SKEYS) and other material data displayed in SmartPlant Material Editor. Its main purpose is to enable users to either create new or alter existing re-definable ISOGEN symbol key shapes (SKEYS) to meet their drawing annotation needs. 8 5. New SmartPlant I-Configure I-Configure, also supplied as part of SPOOLGEN 2007, has been renamed SmartPlant I-Configure. The software provides a single environment for the creation of projects and configuration of isometric drawing and report outputs. SmartPlant Spoolgen White Paper Page 6

Production of Industry-Standard ISOGEN Spool Isometrics SmartPlant Spoolgen includes Personal ISOGEN 2008, the de facto standard for the automatic production of individual pipeline or spool isometrics to conform to the user s company standards and working practices. Interoperability with SmartPlant Enterprise For even greater productivity, SmartPlant Spoolgen offers the benefits of integration with several SmartPlant Enterprise products. 7.1 SmartPlant Isometrics Pipes received from the engineering contractor in isometric paper format can be modeled in SmartPlant Isometrics to produce electronic piping data input for SmartPlant Spoolgen. 7.2 SmartPlant 3D Pipes exported as PCF files from SmartPlant 3D can be imported into SmartPlant Spoolgen, where they can be edited before the software automatically produces drawings for fabrication and construction. 11 7.3 SmartPlant Foundation SmartPlant Spoolgen includes a SmartPlant Publish adaptor, enabling POD material data and the POD file itself to be published to the SmartPlant Foundation database. The connection to SmartPlant Foundation is set up using the new controls on the SmartPlant I-Configure Project Defaults dialog. 7.4 SmartPlant Materials A direct link between ISOGEN and SmartPlant Materials already exists, but this requires ISOGEN report data to be output in a specific format before it can be used in SmartPlant Materials. Alternatively, SmartPlant Materials can retrieve the POD material data published by SmartPlant Spoolgen to the SmartPlant Foundation database and report on it in a variety of ways using its extensive range of reporting capabilities. 12 7.5 SmartSketch SmartPlant Spoolgen is a data-centric piping application supporting the production of isometric drawings in all common 2D CAD formats, including Intergraph SmartSketch format. 7.6 SmartPlant Review Publisher Pipes edited to contain fabrication and construction detail can be exported via SmartPlant Review Publisher to produce a 3D review model, enabling constructors to plan and schedule workface activities as pipe spools exit pre-fabrication and enter the construction phase. Other Information 8.1 Microsoft Platform Support Certified for use on Microsoft Windows XP and Vista SmartPlant Spoolgen (including its modules and integrated Personal ISOGEN) is a 32-bit Microsoft Windows client-side application that is also installable and certified for use on 64-bit Windows XP and Vista platforms. SmartPlant Spoolgen is not compatible with non-windows operating systems, such as UNIX or Linux. 14 8.4 Printable user documentation SPOOLGEN 2007 contained only online documentation. SmartPlant Spoolgen provides both online and printable documentation. This makes learning and using the software significantly easier. 8.5 Software Licensing and Security Provided by SmartPlant License Manager 2008 SPOOLGEN 2007 was licensed by FLEXlm software licensing. SmartPlant Spoolgen 2008 is licensed by Intergraph s own licensing solution SmartPlant License Manager 2008 (v10) offering improved license administration and software security. 15 8.6 Support for Homogeneous Environments SmartPlant Spoolgen 2008 supports a homogeneous configuration, which is an environment that only uses elements from a single locale. For example, a German customer running on a German operating system, using only German characters and German cultural conventions, is a fully supported homogeneous configuration.
